I'm 2 weeks out and had my first soft foods today. They went down well. There is no puréed stage on my surgeon's plan. He says just chew your soft foods to a purée before you swallow. I had:

String cheese

2 bites refried Beans (got full)

Hi Protein mashed potatoes with protein gravy and ground turkey (so delish...posted in recipes thread).

I was really scared to try food but it went well and I was able to get 2-3 oz in before I was full. So nice to actually chew something!!

I am really relieved to see your post. I am 13 days out and my Dr says to do the same thing. I have several family memebers that have been sleeved by different surgeons and they were kind of shocked that I was getting that many choices that fast. As much as i really want something to chew again I am kind of terrified for that first solid bite to go in my mouth. I have hit a mini stall for the past three days and Im hoping that changing things up a bit helps to break me out of that as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
