Thank you everyone for all the great advice! I'm trying really hard to save it up! I definitely don't look at this as a cosmetic procedure, I need and want to have this done!!! My poor little ankle is killing me from standing on it all day at work and I know if I lost about a 100 pounds that would help it out a lot! Also, I have really bad acid reflux, which I've been on Prilosec for a few months now and that has seemed to help it tremendously!

Everyone that had recommended a doctor, thank you! I have been researching them all! :)

I gotta jump in on this one LOL I am an operating room nurse with great insurance except it will not cover ANYTHING weight loss related!! can you imagine?! in this day and age? LOL so I am going to Mexico with Dr Ponce next month. It costs 5500 and I am financing about 4000 because I didn't want to wait any longer to change my life and better my health. Also I just bought my first house this year so my savings basically all went into closing this house. Anyway I know I can work extra here and there or use a tax refund to hopefully pay it off sooner than the 3 yrs they gave me. Honestly I believe this is a smart move for me. At work I see (on a daily basis) what strokes and heart attacks and diabetes do to people.. I'm done! Basically it is SO worth it to me to pay crappy interest if it means I can do this right away.

I'm not suggesting that everyone should just run out and take out a loan for this.. but for ME it was a valid option and I'm grateful the option was there! :)

My surgery is with Dr Alvarez on 10/8, and I am paying half and financing half. His cash price is 8700 and Full financing is 9150. They explained that if you split it somehow... add 4.99% to the financed portion, add the two together and that is your total cost of surgery. I used the financing thru his website, and they base your interest rate off your credit. Luckily my husband has perfect credit, and mine has improved substantially over the last several years, so it was decent. Other than our house, we are pretty debt free, so I don't mind financing it. I just don't want to wait any longer.

Good for you for taking control of your health. Wish I was in Texas to get some hair TLC and hook you up with a big tip!

Sounds like you may be someone who gets an IRS refund- money back- perhaps if you can bank $2500 by February and get a $2500 return early next year.... you can have the sleeve in 6 months! :)

That's actually a great idea! As a single mom I bank about 6K back on my taxes... I'm already sleeved, but I could use mine for plastics. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
