hello everyone! i had my consult about a week and a half ago but i wont be sleeved until the beginning of 2013. eventhough im not sleeved yet, i have really been learning a lot about the sleeve thru vst, youtube, and i recently joined a group on Facebook called teamslim. (please join, its awesome!) On youtube, i dont just watch the good outcomes but also the complications of some people during their journey too. i have to keep reminding myself that everyone's body is different. some of us may have it easy breezy and some of us may have complications. i found a "gastric sleeve manual" online that i printed out and ive been looking thru it trying to get some ideas on what i can eat when i have the sleeve and etc. its very helpful. it even gave a list of medicines you cant take before surgery and a list of medicines u can take after surgery. im just wondering if having a foley catheter during surgery is necessary? ive never had one before and if its necessary im gona be scared!! has anyone had a single incision sleeve done yet?? the doctor thats doing mines is gona have about 4 or 5 incisions i believe. but i heard that its possible to do the sleeve with a single incision. the number one thing im afraid of is getting dehydrated. has anyone experienced Hair loss with the sleeve??

never had a foley placed. that is up to the surgeon. they dont BTW just an odd feeling like you have to go to the bathroom. you are going to have Hair loss. fluids are your number 1 priority when you first get home. after that it is fluids and Protein.

The cath depends on the surgeon. I didn't have one. I had 6 incisions. All but one look like a red speck. Fluids are a chore for a while... I still have to remind myself to drink, but never dehydrated. As long as you sip sip sip, you should be fine. As far as hair loss... Going through it now. Most people have it. Women worse then men from what I am seeing. My dr had the sleeve done, and he actually got hair back. My is falling out in gobs right now, but I am ok with that.. I can buy a wig if I think it's too bad. The hair comes back. It is only temporary. I knew this before hand and it didn't deter me.

I would guess a foley would be used so a) you don't pee during surgery and B) you don't have to get up for a little while after surgery. If they use one, you'll probably be out when they insert it so no biggie. And havin one removed isn't bad at all. Just an odd sensation.

I was told that if I didn't go RIGHT before the surgery I would have one so I didn't go during/right after. Scared me to the point I did #1 & 2 right before lol I have 5 small (maybe an inch, 3 months later they are just little pink marks) incisions. Drinking really is a chore!!!! Every 15 minutes, take a shot! I became a clock watcher, although recently its because I can't seem to quench my thirst. I'm losing my hair something awful, but I had a lot of complications and am on full liquids, not even on Protein yet.

May 16,but like I said I had quite a few complications (including a leak). Between my NUT and hair dressers some tips for hair loss:

-keep up on liquids and most importantly Protein

-take Biotin and Multivitamins

-don't dye/treat your hair for at least 6 months after

-try not to blowdry/hot iron/curl it a lot

-there are hair products with biotin/can help promote healthy hair like nioxin and it's a 10

-condition regularly (my hair is so dry it looks fried)

-avoid sulfate in hair products, they can dry your hair out

-keep up with regular cuts

-keratin MAY help as it coats your hair. Check with your hairdresser if your hair is in good enough condition first

Edit: sorry, to help avoiddddddd Hair loss

The hair loss has nothing to do with the anesthesia and everything to do with not being able to take in as much Protein and other nutrients as you're taking in before surgery. Your body has to go through an adjustment period until it gets used to your new eating habits, and there are things you can do to slow the Hair loss, but it's inevitable.

As for the catheter, any time you go under general anesthesia they put one in, whether you know it or not. You'll also have a breathing tube down your throat, but you won't know about that either. They'll take both out in the recovery room before you're coherent. Don't sweat it ;-)

I have had two surgeries both with caths. And I had a REAL concern too. And its amazing that it truly was NOTHING to worry about, really. Both times they put it in when I was knocked out. I only remember one removal and it was quick, painless and discreet. :)

My coordinator said they only see Hair loss in about 10% of patients.

Seems like a lot more than that here!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
