Is It My Imagination ....that The Guys Have It Easier?

Recommended Posts

Is it my imagination that it seems like the guys here have an easier time as far as common complications after surgery? Maybe it's just because there are less guys here...lol.... but it seems like most say it was a piece of cake ( probably not a good analogy huh?)

I don't hear them complaining much of nausea or pain. And they don't seem as food specific sensitive. Seems like they're running around quickly too.

My wife would probably agree with you.

She had her surgery on July 16, 2012 The surgery went well but she had a lot of nausea and a little pain. She had to stay over night in the hospital

She also developed a localized infection that was not risky just a pain in the ass to treat. She is 4 weeks in and has lost 25 pounds

She progressing ok on the food front but it has taken a while to get uses to each stage.

I on the other hand I had my surgery on August 13, 2012. I had no nausea or pain and was discharged from the hospital that day. I have had no problem so far with the liquid foods and have lost 16 pounds in 6 days.

I think some guys are embarrassed to complain. I know I don't like to. Some of us prefer to bottle it up and appear "stronger" or more macho. Probably not the healthiest thing to do.

What Drewmon said is definitely true. I'm sure there are tons of contributing factors. One that pops to mind for me is the Protein. I think there is a definite correlation between being successful at VSG and getting in your Protein. Now here is where it gets anecdotal, most guys I know have had some experience with Protein shakes in the past. Any guy who lifts weights usually tries them. If you drink them a while, you learn how to tolerate them. Believe me, very few people like them right off. The ones I drink now tasted like chocolate flavored radiator Fluid when I first drank them. Now they taste like chocolate milk...yum yum.

Also, how many overweight guys are meat lovers? Probably all of them. That sure helps when you're suddenly on a high protein, low carb diet. I don't think it's the same for all the women here. Again, pure speculation on my part so nobody flame me for being a gender biased meat eater.

I think no matter what gender you are, being in the best physical shape possible going into surgery helps.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
