No tips on their practice, but be sure to follow their pre-op diet. You want to make sure that you're following their orders and not jeopardizing your possibility at surgery. Also, now's a good time to stock up on Protein Drinks, liquid Soups, Jello, sugar free popcycles, etc that you might consume pre and post surgery because you won't be in any mood to shop following surgery. Also take plenty of before shots. I regret not doing so.

Be mentally prepared for the surgery. You won't look different over night. The loss might be slow. You'll actually leave the hospital weighing a little more due to the IV. Walk as much as you can while in the hospital. I slept much of my stay, but also watched tv, read, and played on my phone. Nothing strenuous. If you have kids work out for them to be watched. My parents and DH took turns. Get in your fluids once home!!!! I went to the ER for dehydration at 3 days home.

I was back to work at just over a week. I had a desk job, so no heavy lifting. Loose clothes will fit best. Again, don't be frustrated at that point if you haven't dropped a size or the scale hasn't moved.

Question, who is your surgery through? My mom is going through St. Francis (I think), but since I had mine out of state (where I was living) I don;t know anything about them.

Hi all! My husband and I will be relocating to Memphis, and I'm wondering if there's a support group or others in the area who would like to get together and chit chat. I was sleeved almost a year ago on May 30, 2012 and have lost 140lbs, going from 325 to 185. I've been at a stall for close to two months due to traveling and poor food choices, but I'm looking into joining ATC Fitness or Planet Fitness in Bartlett with my husband to get back on track and would love to have someone else to work out with. As far as a support group goes, I have not been to one and am struggling with the mental and emotional issues of losing so much weight and also finding who I am again since I had behind the "fat girl" all throughout my life. Any feedback or friendships would be greatly appreciated!

I am in memphis i go to planet fitness i get sleeved on 6th of july .. Im always looking for workout buddies!

Hi there! I've recently moved to Memphis and am looking for a few local sleeve buddies. My surgery was April 4th but I've quite honestly been doing horribly with my lifestyle changes. I'm down 40 pounds and I'm not gaining, but I am far behind where I should be. For the past week I've been working hard at getting my diet under control and working more activity into my day. I'm often at Shelby Farms dog park if anybody would like to get together for some walking!

I'm having surgery on May 22nd, Dr. Woodman is doing my surgery! My wife juts got sleeved on May 13th so I've been watching her, so I know what to expect ha! Looking forward to my surgery ready to get it over with! I was told to lose 18lbs and I've lost 32lbs, at times I think man I just lost 32lbs without surgery do I really need this, but then I'm like yeah might as well do it that way I don't relapse ha

All the best to you and your wife. Dr. Woodman is an awesome surgeon. He's a bit blunt but its necessary.
I was sleeved by Woodman and never had an issue with him until my last visit. He came into the room complaining about the lady he saw before me had been, "eating ice cream" and then he went on a tirade about how i had only lost 5 lbs since my last visit and how I wasted my time and his by having the surgery. I will not go back to see him again. I have followed his guidelines as best as I can. I dont eat crap, I excercise, I get my proteins.....i have not gained an once and I have lost 10 inches from my waist....also went from a 3x shirt to an XL. .....i didnt need any discouragement from somebody I am paying. .....BTW....he charges $500 up front and my insurance said he is not allowed to do that. Like I said, I will not see him again.
.

Dr Woodman did my lapband surgery in 2008 and was so mean and nasty to me and other people that I knew that had used him for the lapband. He has a reputation amongst local doctors for being so horrible to his patients. Even though I lost 90lbs that year after the lapband he wrote such awful things in my medical records that I am unable to get a revision now and having to go through the appeals process. All because of him and what all he wrote. My insurance advocate read me some of it when she received the records but said she couldn't even read it all because he had been so mean.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
