Dreaming About Sandwiches

Recommended Posts

I am not hungry at all! However I am having mini dreams of butter crossants, cheeses, mustard, greens and turkey. But in these dreams I am always making the sandwiches for other people!

I have no temptation to cheat as I know this is the most important time being 5 days post. It's just weird! Lol

I've had dreams about sandwiches too! Specifically, I eat half a sandwich really quick and then remember that I shouldn't. Then I sit and wait for the pain. I've had this same dream several times since surgery. Weird!

I never dream about food but did it briefly post op. I think you just miss chewing your meals and it messes with your head! I can tell you from experience that actually eating a sandwich isn't very exciting post op. It took me forever to be able to eat enough of one to feel like it was a worthwhile option!

True story- when I was in the hospital after my surgery I was stupidly watching the food channel- my favorite one... and they had a sandwich show on that showed a hamburger that was krispy kremes as the bun- it was the most amazing and worst thing I could have seen at the same time... I craved sandwiches too- I had a hard time and still do with bread and this may sound gross but in the beginning when I wanted something I took 2 saltines and put a peice of cheese and or meet and made like a sandwich because crackers were waaay easier to eat. Now I use whole wheat pita pockets and they are thin enough that it isnt a problem. GOod luck but your not weird- we all go through it and dream it too!!

I'm 26 months out and I seldom eat a sandwich at home, just a few times I've eaten a half a Peanut Butter sandwich or bologna sandwich, but we do go to a place here in town called Which Wich. Yum!! I get all sorts of goodies on it, cucumbers, tomatoes, banana peppers, on a toasted wheat roll. I still can only eat half of a 7" sandwich and half the time I do not eat all the bun of that little 3.5". It's wonderful. The roast beef, turkey and ham sandwiches are all decent Protein and low in fat. Unless you NEED the calories, leave off the cheese.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
