Hello all!!! I am ten days post-op today, and I am proud to say I am down 20 lbs!! My starting weight was 340. I have had an extremely easy journey so far, so I'm not sure if this is normal at all... Up until yesterday I was having no problems getting my Protein down and all of fluids. I started adding Soups on day 7. Yesterday morning I felt really shaky and queasy and tried to get a couple of ounces of protein down but I just couldn't do it. I felt so nauseated and yucky feeling. I managed to get down almost all of my Fluid (all 64 ozs of water). But this morning I had gained 0.4 lbs!!!!!!!!!

Is this normal?

Yes, it is vey normal to fluctuate in weight from day to day. What matters is the long term progress. I know it is easy to think that since we were sleeved that we should lose everytime we get on the scale but in reality that doesn't usually happen.

Sometimes, we retain fluids for the TOM, sodium from Soups, not getting enough fluids, hormones, etc.

As for the Protein issues...you might just want to try different things. I know if I wait too long to eat I get that same feeling so try to find a schedule that works for you.

Just know as long as you follow your program the weight WILL come off. Just stay focused and realize that your weight will go up sometimes but in the end look at your overall loss and you will see great things!!

Good job getting in all your liquids I'm 5 weeks out and yet to get in a full 64 oz in one day!!

I've stopped weighing myself everyday, I know as long as I'm doing the right things the weight has to come off. And I have always been addicted to the scale. Today was my day to weigh and I got my period yesterday so I'm doing myself a favor and not getting on until its over! Because without even getting on I know I gained some Water weight, retaining Fluid.< /p>

I've had a day here and there when I had that queasy yucky feeling trying to drink my morning Protein, I think I know what you mean. But I did my best with the rest of the day and on average I hit 70-80g of protein so I don't sweat the occassional morning that my tummy doesn't want to cooperate.

I agree with what a lot of folks said. Got to stop waying yourself everyday. At most once a week but better is once every two weeks. The body can flutuate by as much as 10lbs per day for men. Probably less for ladies but, I am not sure what that number would be. Also, the time of day etc effects those numbers. If you want to use clinical methods weigh yourself once a week on the same day and then use excel or some other program to begin to chart weight long term. You know when you are doing things correct when the lienar graph shows that over a long period of time you lose weight. As an example, I know wrestlers who would purposly dehydrate themselves the day of weigh in to drop 5 - 10 lbs so they could wrestle in a lower weight class.

I say don't let the daily number of your weight define you. If you wake up everyday and weigh yourself so many people end up having a bad day on days their weight is up and good days when their weight is down. I say understand the longevity of life and journey as big picture.

Thank you for your help everyone! I'm feeling better today and have gotten in about 20 grams of Protein so far (thank goodness for protein water!) I'm working really really hard on not weighing myself everyday, but it's so hard! I think I may ask my husband to start hiding the scale from me until I break the habit!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
