No problem, this forum is how I decided to go have the sleeve done there myself :)

I just want to keep it real. One suggestion, If I had it to do over, I would speak up and ask/demand to have 2 stitches put in my very top cut.. I was told this before I went and I didn't think about it once I was there.. and sure enough, a month later my cut is still open,. rest are perfect

5K in TJ? Wow that's a good price! I have been talking to Dr. Rod at StarMedica in Cd. Juarez a little higher price but closer to home. I have been to the city and it seems ok the area where the hospital is it is very nice. I'm a lil scared about the infection now...but very excited to hear all this weight loss from all the members!

Wildflower I think your account is both genuine and honest. Having surgery performed and having it performed out of the states can be a very unsettling adventure. We are all here looking for the best affordable option. It's testimonies such as these that help some of us make the choice we feel is best.

It's nice to hear people experiences about Dr. Almanza..

I just hear from the other doctors.

I'm having mine Saturday with him and was wondering about people's experiences.

I'm so nervous about it.

My friend went to Almanza and she says he's great so I don't think you really have much to worry about! We'll all be some skinny bit@&$s in a few no matter who does our surgery!

Loved Dr. Almanza. Cost of surgery wasnt a big issue for me and I chose Almanza. I felt completely comfortable at all times an zero complications. I stayed at the hotel instead of the recovery house. I had my surgery on a Friday and only had pain meds that night and then first thing Saturday morning. Never needed them after that.

I suggest walking every 2 hours the entire night after surgery and sleep sitting up the first night. I had zero gas pains after that and really no pain at all. Didn't even take the naproxen they gave me.

I didn't have 2 stitches in my upper inscision, and that was the first of mine to heal - we are all different though.

Not that I am aware of @AKsleever.. 9 of us had it that day and none of us had the " sore throat " feeling and no one ever mentioned it to us.

@Yazun, that included what I spent on air fair as well from Atlanta.

I myself at this point am still glad that I went and had it done, just scared of no home follow up like it would be if we had it done in the states.

Wildflower I was told he uses a 32 with all patients unless otherwise requested! I would call and check into it!

Well I can vouch for 2-3 spoonfuls of whatever is all your going to get in for many months. I get tired of eating cause its w a waste of time. Just when its getting good you gotta stop before you visit the bathroom to regurgitate. But so far 120lb loss since Feb. Zero complications except for Gall bladder issues but thats not from Almanza thats just natural due to weightloss. My top incision was the first to heal up also. Next was my side. The longest one was the incision with the drain tube. It was awesome.

But anyways. Its going to be a life changing experience. Would I have chose another doctor...hmm nope. Thats why I am bringing someone else next fall after they finish with college and getting a man lift if I need it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
