Need Help

Recommended Posts

I Am post op by 5 days and having a really hard time getting in my Protein. I am drinking milk and can have cream of wheat and sugar free pudding. But any protien shakes are not going down well. I take little sips and not really working. Just wondering what helped others the first couple of weeks post surgery. Any help is very appreciated. I am really worried about not getting my protien in and losing my hair.< /p>

the first couple of weeks can be difficult. :(

continue to try and get your Protein shakes, getting a little bit down is better than nothing

i was always told to make sure you drink as much Water as possible, the more the better - you can't afford to get dehydrated, end up in the hospital with an IV.

for now, don't worry about getting in Protein that you need - right now, this soon after WLS, concentrate on drinking as much as you can - as everyone says, it does get better.

as far as losing your hair goes,it doesn't happen to everyone - i lucked out and escaped the "bad hair days" some people treat their hair with "biotene" i think - they can tell you

i'd rather have no hair and not be fat, what do you think ?

trust me - do i look like the type of person who would lie to you ;)

you could help the economy by purchasing scarves - and of course now you don't need Shampoo -

take care

good luck

spirits up

I take Biotin daily, and have since 2 months out. It seems to have helped, but I've also been very compliant with the Protein requirement.

5 days out from surgery you should be worrying about Water, not Protein. Your restriction will ease up as you go on and you'll be better able to get the protein in. :)

If you can't get in the Protein in the first two weeks, don't worry about it. Just get in the recommended fluids for now. I'm 9 weeks post op and still have problems getting in my daily Protein. My Doc advised B12 shots for hair loss, and it's working for me.

Hope you get to feeling better!

I purchased PB2 from whole foods. It's powdered Peanut Butter. 2 tablespoons is 5 g of Protein. Very low calorie! I mix it with my shake to make it taste better. I hate the after taste. So if you like peanut butter this is a great choice! I Actually look forward to taking my Protein Shakes now. It's just reminding myself is the hard part.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
