Shoulder pain

Recommended Posts

I'm one week post band, and generally fine EXCEPT I keep getting terrible pain in my left shoulder. I've been told this is referred pain (from gas trapped under the diagaphram during the op).

Anybody else get this? Anything help shift it? It hurts a lot, and only lying down helps it pass

For me going for walks really helped get the gassies out. Also taking Gas-X helped a bit. Drinking hot/warm coffee helped. It'll go away soon, I feel or should I say I felt your pain ;). Hope you feel better soon.

LOVE Maalox Max.....it moved EVERYTHING out....got diarrhea but moved that gas!!!! So worth it!!!!!!!!!!!! Walking and increasing your Fluid intake helps....also avoid straws as you can suck in more air on accident! I actually had pain into my ear of all places...it was MISERABLE! ;) Hang in there....it does get better!!!!!!!!!!!

God bless,

Melody

I will be one week post opt tomorrow, and yes have the left shoulder pain! I had to actually lay down yesterday and put the heating pad on it. I did take some Gas-x as well. It is alittle better today and hopefully it will be gone by the weekend! Hang in there!

if you are having shoulder pain the only thing that will help is time; it should be gone within 1-2 weeks. Any kind of gas relief products that you are trying will not help; the gas in intraabdominal not in you intestines!!

try a heating pad maybe.?? but give it time, it will go away.

the only thing that will help is time; anykind of gas relief products will not help this no matter what people tell you! the pain is from the gas that the surgeons put intraabdominal not in the intestines!! time is the only healing product here! This is all normal and will go away. Maybe try a heating pad for temp. relief otherwise you have to put up with it; and it will be worth it in the long run. this is a very minor thing!

Thanks for the input guys - I'm 10 days post surgery now, and the pain is better - still there but not nearly as unpleasant as it was - I hope by Weds (2 wks post surgery) that it will be gone.

And as of yesterday I am 20lbs (9 kilos) lighter. Just another 50kg to go!

yes malox is very helpful w/ gas but this is not the kindof gas she is describing. it is from the CO2 used in surgery. and it is not put in the intestine ! it is used to separate all of the internal organs so that the surgeon is able to visualize all the organs while doing the gastric banding otherwise all the organs are all on top of each other and they would be unabe to do the procedure!

Yahoo!! :clap2:

I think you will be feeling better very soon. For me, the 15th day after surgery I felt back to normal. No pain, not even around the port. I was aware of it, but it wasn't uncomfortable.

I have the gas pains periodically too. I find walking and gas-s with malox tablets help. I know why babies cry with gas pains!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
