KaylaBabb 5 Posted August 18, 2012 How much weight did you lose before the pre-op diet? Or did you lose the required weight during the pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

KaylaBabb 5 Posted August 18, 2012 So are you trying to lose before your pre op diet or during
carolc 94 Posted August 18, 2012 my doctor gently suggested I lose 20-30lbs pre-op while doing my required 3 month weight management. I followed their low fat, low cal diet with a few "mardi gras" moments (one last time having fried clams, cold beer, pizza, steak). I got really serious about it 2 months prior to surgery and lost 25 lbs by surgery day. Not only did it make 25lbs less to lose post-op but I believe it put me in the right frame of mind for post-op. Good luck to you!!! 2 cmf1267 and COsleeveDude reacted to this
scaredoftheunknown 95 Posted August 18, 2012 My dr. suggested I lost 10 lbs. by the next time I met with him which was 1 month. Like the other person mentioned it does put you in the right frame of mind. However what I didn't ask the dr. is if I should continue losing before the surgery (sept.13) or just try to maintain. Good luck. What stage are you in?
CoolBreeze 154 Posted August 18, 2012 before i started on my WLS journey i weighed 289lbs. when i decided to take the journey i was 277lbs. so i lost 12lbs before i even started you could say. on the liquid diet my doctor wanted me to lose 10lbs before surgery - mission accomplished. with 48lbs lost after surgery- which was june 26 (i am 7 weeks post-op), and 12lbs before the journey. and as of today (8/18/12) i am 229lb.... total of 60lbs lost. hope this helps you. 2 COsleeveDude and cmf1267 reacted to this
COsleeveDude 273 Posted August 18, 2012 My program had no requirement. However, if you managed to lose on your own you were more likely (but not guaranteed) to be on a pre-op 3-day liquid diet vs. a 14-day liver shrinking diet. I lost 30ish on my own, and another 10ish on the pre-op.

cmf1267 27 Posted August 20, 2012 I haven't been told to lose any weight, but I've only had one meeting with the surgeon so far - I still have my psych eval which is scheduled for 8/28. Other than sending my file to insurance for approval I'm not sure what happens after that. I had 6 month medically supervised diet in 2010 so I'm not sure when I meet with the NUT. Anyway - I need to get my head in the right place and I want to start eating high protein/low carb and exercising regularly. I would like to get my weight down to about 225-230 before surgery. KaylaBabb 5 Posted August 23, 2012 Sorry everyone that I haven't wrote back any sooner. My phone decided to go crazy and I just got it fixed. Thank you for all your replies. I Have lost some but just gained 3 pounds back which I'm being told is probably because I quit smoking (38days smoke free) I've already changed my eating habits but once in a while I do eat not so well. But going from fast food everyday at work to none I'm going to say I'm doing better. I Have started exercising. Small steps. Oh and drink no sodas. I'm Water, crystal light, and unsweet tea. I know I went a little further into depth than my question. Sorry about that.
Cookeeeeez 269 Posted August 23, 2012 Congratulations KB on your quitting! That is probably 1000x better for your surgery than any amount of weight loss! I know it's hard, I'm smoking again after quitting 1.5 YEARS!!! But so proud of you for taking your health back in hand! I hope your rewarding yourself like crazy! I've lost 12 kilos and plan to lose another 10 or so at least before my surgery next year and also to quit smoking too! Baby steps
