Anyone Sleeved By Dr. Jorge Acosta Or Dr. Michael Lara (El Paso)

Recommended Posts

I'm reading mixed reviews but they are also surgeons at a Center of Excellence hospital? Are they great surgeons? How was your overall experience?

Do you any recommendations of a great surgeon in the TX area?

I am schedule for September 4th. I know several people who have had surgery done by Dr. Acost and really like him. They are very happy that they did the surgery and have been successful. What had you heard?

Hi Beckykabq, :) thanks for responding! I googled them and read some good and bad. Like bedside manners and the little things. I was ready to go with them until that but I really want to like them because it is only a 4 hour drive and I have lots of family in El Paso lol! Please let me know how everything goes for you :) I hope you have a complication free surgery and recover quicker then quick :)

My sister and i are scheduled for 9/21 with Dr. Lara. I have heard good things about Dr Acosta, but also good things about Dr. Lara. He's very serious about his work. I'm hoping things go well.

Had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Dr. Acosta is wonderful. I couldn't have been more please with both Dr. Acosta and the hospital staff at Del Sol.

Thank you for letting me know! How was the pain? Do you mind me asking how everything went? Like how the nurses were, after surgery, when did you leave? Lol I have soooo many questions!

My sister and i had our surgeries with Dr Lara on 9/18. They went great. He is a great Dr. The staff at the hospital are excellent and really take care of all of your needs. There was very little pain.

The nursing staff was absolutely the best I have ever had. I had some other issues since I have other health issues so my stay was longer. I was apprehensive about the surgery because of those issues but I couldn't be happier with the outcome and how the staff and Dr. Acosta handled the issues when they did arise.

Follow up has been terrific too.

He didnt request that we go on a pre-op diet. but we did anyway, so the surgery would go easier. We did 5 Protein Shakes a day for a week before surgery, except for the day before, which was just clear liquid.< /p>

Sounds to good to be true. Minimal pain and no pre- op diet lol hmmm o_O

I do hope your recovery continues to go smoothly :)

Dr. Acosta did have me go on a 2 week pre-op liquid Protein shake diet. Since my surgery date was moved up it was actually only one week. But I did lose 5 pounds. I think the pre-op depends on each patients needs. My co-worker didn't have an pre-op diet restrictions. I think it helped prepare for the post-op liquid diet. I personally like the shakes and have at least one a day.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
