Something Just Dawned On Me.... Swallowing Meds

Recommended Posts

I tried to ingest them crushed and hurled each time. The Prilosec I divide into 8 pieces and the others are liquid. Be aware the liquids "compound" form, is quite pricey. Be sure to get approval ahead of time from insurance it can be cumbersome. Goo luck!

The BEST person to talk to is your pharmacist. He/she can tell you exactly if it ok to crush your meds. Also they can talk to your surgeon about changing some of your meds to liquid for a while.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Lots of medications have a liquid form.

If you have a compounding pharmacy near you they can offer different methods of delivery with different meds. Many meds can be made chewable or liquid. Some can even be made topical.

And the crazy thing is quite often compounding pharmacies can offer these options even cheaper than the original medication.

I took about 10 pills at night every night. When I just got done with surgery I was able to get them all in... But I took two at a time over a period of ten minutes. Just take it slow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
