How Long Are You In Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I got approved today for surgery!!!!!! I am scheduled for Sept. 4th, and I start my liquid diet on Wednesday. I am so super excited, but now I have some questions. My poor husband is super nervous about surgery, and I have been trying to calm his nerves.

We would like to know how long I will be back in surgery? I figure about an hour, but I was not sure.

Also, does everyone have a drain after surgery? How long do you have to keep it in?

I am sure I will think of more, but just want to start getting some answers.

I was in the OR for 75 minutes.

I did have a drain but it depends on if your Dr uses one. I had my drain in for 3 days Surgery Monday and drain out Thursday.

I was in surgery less than an hour. No drain, no foley. The only issue I had was nausea from the anesthesia. They were aggressive about treating it though, which I appreciated!

I went into surgery at 8:15 and they came out and told my husband and family at 11:45 I was in recovery. I had to have a lg hernia repaired and a second hernia that had herniated way into my chest wall repaired as well. I had a drain which was the most discomfort that I felt and felt instant relief once it was removed 3 days after surgery.

See, this is so strange to me. My paperwork says surgery is 3-5 hours. Everything I've read and seen though says less than 2 hours. I wonder if 3-5 hours includes prep and the short stay in the post surgery room before you're moved to your room.

I need to ask about that.

I was in surgery for 3 hours. I have no idea why.

My surgery only took 35 minutes. I had no drain tube whatsoever. I healed up quickly and have not had any complications. The doctor said that surgery usually takes about one hour, but that surprisingly, I was very easy to operate on.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
