I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8

Recommended Posts

Hello Gorgeous Ladies!

I am 52 and getting my sleeve in 12 days (September 10th). I am a revision...getting my lapband removed and sleeve done at the same time (I hope!). I am thinking positive and I know that I can do this! I have lost 38 pounds so far on my pre-op diet and only another 60 pounds to go until I hit onederland! I can overcome my weight! I can be sexy, beautiful and awesome!

Wish me luck!

Dottie

Hi Dottie...

I am also a "band to sleeve" revision. Done 8/9/2012. I pray all goes well with you...

Welcome Dottie & Connie!

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery Dottie, hope all goes well with your band removal and your sleeve procedure. Just take it nice and easy post surgery, get some walking in as soon as you possibly can and make sure you have what you need at home post-op, your Protein, clear broth, sugar free drinks, etc. You will probably be tired and it takes awhile to get your strength back. Hang in there.

Connie...sounds like you are doing well. You have a relatively low BMI so not as much to lose as some of us, and sometimes the weight comes off slower for those in your category...gosh even for me, now that I'm about 2/3 of the way toward my goal....it is harder for me to lose, but I will keep on pluggin away!!

Nice to meet you!

Katie

I have managed to survive my first week of soft foods. It has been a challenge after 5 weeks of liquids! Hoping that my stomach likes more things as I try more. A few bites and your "meal" is done. Seems like too much bother sometimes! I am feeling good, my energy seems to be coming back. I still struggle with getting enough fluids in each day. I have never been a big drinker, so this is hard for me. Down 21 pounds, been stalled a couple of times and I am only one month out. I put the scale away so I just need to learn to stay off of it.

Hope all of you are doing great and good luck to those that have surgery still to look forward too!

Hi All! I'm 55 right now and will be having my surgery the day after my birthday, September 21st. I'm so excited and nervous, and really really happy I found this forum! I felt like I was the oldest one on the whole site! I've never had any kind of surgery either, but the closer it gets the more calm I become. It's exciting to think about what I will be doing this time next year, when I turn 57 and hopefully am 100 pounds or more thinner!

Good luck Seven7, you will do great! The surgery pain only lasts for a short while, then you feel pretty good. ;) Life begins with a new "normal" after surgery.

Best of luck to you!

Hi everyone I am 58 years old and had my band to sleeve revision on August 14 th and it really has been a breeze.. I found nautral calm plus Calcium by natural vitality works great and really fast for Constipation. www.naturalvitality.com. I was watching a utube video and can't remember who suggested it, but they said they picked it up from Sprouts farmers market but I'd you don't have one go online and see where else they sale it it really works and fast.. Hope this helps!

Welcome pegsue...a friend of mine recommended the same product - I may want to keep some on hand, but I would say overall I have not been having a problem at this stage of the game - I am about 5 months out and as long as I have salads and some fruit my bowels move fairly well.

What stage of eating are you at, soft/mushy? Are you finding the dietary recommendations difficult?

Good Luck!

I am 59 and was sleeved on March 14. No problems at all. I can eat anything I want, just not much of it! I am very pleased with my weight loss. Every day I am in wonderment over my shrinkage!! Ahhh, life is good...

I have 1 and 1/2 weeks of the mushy then on to the normal diet. Have not had any problems with this stage so far in fact it is nice to eat something instead of Protein Drinks and Soups.< /p>

pegsue...be warned, once you start regular foods prepare to feel your restriction in full force. Start with your Protein first and see what you can tolerate, at this stage it may only be a few ounces, then a tablespoon or two of a vegetable or fruit.< /p>

This is the true power of the sleeve...and if you follow the dietary recommendations of Protein first you will get full fast, almost uncomfortably full. It takes time for the swelling in your stomach to reduce allowing more foods, that will happen down the line.

Good luck....and by the way fish is an excellent protein and easy for most to tolerate!!

Katie 713 thanks for your input I do love my sleeve so far but not getting nausea when I eat too fast..

I am not a fish fan at all but I guess I might have to try some maybe!

Some people don't like fish...but for so many it is such a healthy option, maybe chicken will be your go to, for some reason chicken was hard for me, it felt so heavy in my little tummy!

I hope you find tasty foods you can tolerate. Don't be afraid to try new recipes!!

Good Luck!

Had my sleeve surgery on sept 10th. The weighed me the day after and I had put on 13 lbs from all the fluids. They said it is very normal but it still upset me as I had worked had to lose 21 lbs prior to the surgery. 7 days out toda and still not back to my pre surgery weight. I am 58 so maybe that had something to do with it? Not sure. I am still having some abdominal pain and my belly is retry swollen. Was feeling very discouraged this morning but better tonight! Have a good night!!

You need time to heal, your body uses Fluid in the healing process. Stick to your program and trust that it will come off. Be kind to yourself and get some well needed rest. No heavy lifting no vacuuming...your internal and external wounds need to heal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
