astambo 9 Posted August 17, 2012 Every time I swallow Water or my meds I get this horrible pain throughout my stomach and abdomen! It comes and goes but it's very sharp at first. Is this what everyone refers to as gas pains? I literally cringe when I feel them coming. 1 LorenaVaca reacted to this

Butterthebean 8,146 Posted August 17, 2012 For me the gas pain was in my shoulders and upper back as well. If its only when something enters your stomach, it may just be the swelling and soreness. Do you get the same pain eating ice chips? Ice chips go down much slower and help with the swelling. I don't know how far out you are, but the first few days do come with some soreness. If it doesn't seem like its improving day by day, then I'd call your surgeon.
MamaJaa 1 Posted August 17, 2012 That's normal, painful swallowing will last a few weeks but gets better with practice. The gas thing will go away in a few days once your peristalsys normals itself out. Just keep yourself on a schedule especially with your Protein & liquids. You will feel better soon. Izuri 428 Posted August 17, 2012 My gas pains have been mostly under my sternum. They especially get bad if I take anything too fast. Have you been sipping slowly? I read on another post that you can take a sip into the back of your mouth, tilt your head back a little, and then swallow so the air stays in the front of your mouth and it's just Water at the back to help decrease air while swallowing. When you get the gas pains does your stomach gurgle a lot? Mine will do this if I swallow more air and it's a clue that I need to pay more attention to what I'm eating/drinking.
