Query about eating and headache...

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow Canucks!

:canada: :canada:

I thought I'd turn to ya for a question I have. This is mainly directed at those who are already banded and have been eating "regular food" for awhile now.

So, here is the thing....I've noticed that every time (for the last couple of weeks) when I eat dinner (this doesn't happen at breaky or lunch; just dinner)....I get a headache when I'm about half way done. Just out of the blue...WHAM...headache. Nothing severe; just irritating. Doesn't matter what I have for dinner....it seems to happen. It goes away after a bit and it doesn't get bad enough to take something for it or anything. I just find it odd and am wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

Comments?

By the way...y'all are doing awesome!!! :clap2: :clap2:

Hrrrrrmmmm.... I don't have anything intelligent to say. I get headaches all the time though, and I don't know why or can't blame eating for it. I'll stay tuned to see what everyone says though.

btw... hi :girl_hug:

Nothing intelligent to say Mandi? Yet you can write letters to Leprechauns and even get replies back??!!!! *snorts*.

I must therefore beg to differ; I am pretty sure that you sometimes have something intelligent to share.....ummm... I actually haven't seeeeeen it but I've heard from others that you can pull out all the stops at times!!!

hehe.

Yoda, this is your stop signal, since we bandsters do not feel that full feeling anymore our bodies give us a signal, yours is the headache..I too had the headache but mine was more like an ice cream headache when I was full..some get a runny nose, others get a slight hiccup and others get a pain in the shoulder...my headache only happened at dinner also, mainly because my meals during the day were much smaller since I could not each much in the a.m and early afternoon, once I opened up a bit my appetite increased which is why I ate more in the evenings which is why I got the stop signal..make sense to you? you might be eating more also in the evening as well..many bandsters are tighter in the mornings then in the evenings and can eat more. I hope this helps, you will here this from other bandsters..some just may not realize what they are feeling is the stop signal...I have spoken to many bandsters who get the stop signal in some way shape or form..

Ya its funny how the body can displace pain. Ppl with heart disease can have the only symptom be headaches too. For some reason the body can choose where to tell you something. Wether it be your shoulder, your head, your arm, or any other part of you.

Hi Yoda, I'm not a Canuck, but my last manager was, and I know what a "bonnet" is, so can I reply? ;)

I think your situation is very interesting. On a few different boards (and here too), for the last few years, I've seen other references to headaches and, in general, symptopms of changes in the blood flow, such as fainting, dizziness, light-headedness, tunnel vision... they all seemed linked to eating with restriction.

When you say that you're halfway done, do you mean halfway to the point of no longer feeling hungry, or halfway through the food on your plate? About what quantity of food have you eaten when your headache kicks in?

This is all very interesting and informative, i went to see the family dr. yesterday because i was having terrible dizzy spells, i thought i was suffering from vertigo, he checked me over and then asked if it was band related, if it had something to do with the way i have been eating.

Wheetsin just posted that other people have had these problems, so now i know. The things we learn on this forum, it is great. Thank you.

Maria:)

Wheetsin: of course you can chime in! Anytime. I get the headache after only a few bites. I certainly haven't gotten to the point where I "feel full" nor where I should have eaten enough. Know what I mean? In other words, I still have more on plate that I should be eating....I only eat maybe 1/4 cup (if that) before it kicks in. That is why I have trouble believing it is my personal "full signal"....cause there is no way I am only supposed to eat THAT little!!!

What is a bonnet? LOL

Is it something that we only have in Canada? Cause I'm sure I've heard the word elsewhere. That is if we're talking about the 'hat'.

Hehe, that comes from one of my husban's co-workers. He calls the car hood a "bonnet". :)

Yep:nod: that is what they call it in England, and in case you didn't know the trunk of the car is called a boot  :pound: :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
