When Was Your First Bm Post Op?

Recommended Posts

I am one week post op and still have not gone. Is this normal? I don't feel constipated. At least not yet.

I did not go #2 for 11-12 days post-op. Dr said not to worry, but if I was concerned take 1 low dose stool softener every other day or Fiber supplement until it happened. However (tmi) that first one I would say was the closest I could come to giving birth. I almost cried, and when I saw it, was not really surprised since it was almost 2 weeks of number 2 all at once. Now, if I haven't went for 2 days, I start the low dose softener, and all s well.

I went through the same thing. I felt perfectly fine too. I was told by my Doctor to take Magnesium Milk but it tastes terrible. I finally went on my own on the 8th day (I use a bidet -- definitely helps), but it was just ED -- Explosive Diarrhea, TMI... (I'm sorry!)

Well here's some TMI.....day 7 and it was very painful and bloody and then after that it's been soft, a little runs but not bad. When I went in for my post op with Dr. he asked about BM and before I could even tell him he said "a little consipated? and was there blood"....apparently this is "normal". Anyway, all is fine and no more pain, it was only that 1 time.

I had one about 4 days after getting home. They told me if I got to 5 days and still hadn't had one to use a dulcolax suppository - not the tablet.

I posted the same question not to long ago. :) Day 6 was the charm for me, & it wasn't anything to write home about either. I'm 15 days post-op & just had my 3rd BM. I'm starting to feel like I'm never gonna have a good 1 again. But think how little we're putting in our bodies, & it's mostly liquid. If u have gas, the poop shoot is still working :) it just takes time, especially if your sensitive. Nevermind, u pooped ur guts completely out not too long ago. I have found it hard to go, & am anticipating an embarrassing trip to get a stool softener. Any recommendations anyone?

Metamucil has been working great for me.

Yeah, on the liquid diet you won't have anything to evacuate. Once you start eating again things will go back to normal...for a while. Then when you go to full foods, and you're eating mostly Protein, it gets hard again because you're not getting in enough fiber. Thus...the Metamucil.

I must be odd....it was the next day after surgery....and everyday since.

The first two weeks, it matched my diet....liquids. But after that it kinda followed along with my diet.

But always very regular. Guess I'm fortunate

Nurse told me I was an oddity but I woke up night of surgery at 11 pm. So about 12 hrs post to go to the bathroom! And has pretty much stayed on the same schedule as pre surgery (daily).

It took me 4 days and I was actually pretty worried about it, the Dr told me to use Milk of magnesia which most people dont like the taste of. It was one of the most painful BMs ive ever had that is for sure. After that one I have been fairly regular and they are much softer.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
