I am a lot like you! Before surgery, I went into this crazy "last bad meal" syndrome, would sabotage myself for eating good all day and feel terrible after. I'm only 1 week post-op and went through minor complications but I can tell you, you will lose much of your desire to eat (any desire you get will merely be head hunger). Ghrelin is gone and you will feel connected with your stomach more than ever. Whenever I have random cravings now, I just take a deep breath (sounds silly, but my therapist actually recommended this) and then, I say to myself, "I am in control now!"

Judy you will be OK just remember that food is not your friend so you will have to break up with him/her in the near future. If you have this problem when you are sleeved then you will have a big issue with your food addiction and it will be time to panic/worry. It is still possible to get in 1700 with your new sleeve also if you eat foods like cheesecake and ice cream, what we call slider foods. Yes you can gobble up a 1/2 gallon of ice cream in one sitting so be careful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
