I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter and didn't want to go into "pregnancy pants" so I took a rubber band and hooked it thru my jeans button hole and then attached the end thru the button and it got me thru an extra month in my own jeans.

Well my last straw was when many years later and my fattest fat pants didn't fit and I used that same rubber band trick to close the top of my jeans.

That was my final straw.

Sent on a busines trip and I had to sneak and buy a second seat on the airline out of my own pocket so I wouldn't squash the person next to me.

Does the have to be only 1 straw?!?!?! I could name soooo many.

1. Being a hermit and only going out into public when necessary.

2. Being able to do things that I want to do but dont because of the way I look and feel.

3. Being the "fat friend" and "fat co-worker"

4. Not being healthy

The list is endless!!!!!! I am sick of it and cant stand the constant shame and grief I put on myself. Just to name a few.

Wow that opened up a wound....lol.... I know all of the these things sound cliche, but isn't that why we all have seeked, or are seeking VSG?

OMG I did this as well!!! You are so not alone!

  1. When I couldn't carry my grandson and walk up the stairs at the same time.
  2. When I realized that there's so much more to life than sitting in the house because I didn't want to be the only fat person in the group.
  3. EVERYTHING that has been listed in the previous posts.

Getting winded tying my shoes, feeling a little out of breath when I just roll over fast in bed, having been told by my doc NOT to get diabetes due to a past cardiac issue...and knowing I was already prediabetic...feeling so many things were off limits to me. Having people come up and ask me if I was "expecting" again, and having to laugh (faking being okay with it, like you do, you know?) and say, "No, I'm just fat." Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. ....

I never get anything done. We have two stories in our home and I actually don't do anything in the second story because of having to climb the stairs! I feel like a sack of potatoes with no shape. Clothes shopping is pointless because nothing looks good on me anyway, so I have taken to wearing whatever big t-shirt I tossed on the floor from yesterday...

There are a million reasons I want to get this done. I have done the diet and exercise bit, and there isn't enough life left to live to waste on that nonsense anymore.

When I went to Carowinds with my kids this year and could not ride the three rollercoasters my kids wanted me to ride with them the most because I was too big to fasten the safety harness. That will all change this year, watch out Intimidator and Night Hawk.......already renewed our seasons passes... :tongue2:

I was a little different because I started out with a lap band and I was considered a low BMI bandster. I actually exercised faithfully (1 -2 hours) everyday and even did a mini triathlon and some other events at our local gym. I had to work so hard to keep my weight managed but I was still overweight and couldn't seem to find that magical formula of calories and excercise to loose and maintain the weight. I finally decided that I couldn't continue to keep this up just to be overweight so i started looking at alternatives and the lap band seemed apprpriate for someone that doesn't have a lot of weight to lose and might be able to maintain a good weight. I did not meet the insurance criteria so I finally decided that I was going to just pay for it and relieve my joints and my body of the physical stress I was putting them through. I got the lap band and lost 75 pounds over almost 2 years of having it but recently had issues and converted to a sleeve a week ago. Even though I have had recent problems I must say I have felt AMAZING with that amount of weight off of me.

For years I have had Fibromyalgia, Hypothyroidism and sleep Apnea. Whenever I tried to start an exercise program, I would normally start by walking. And within a few days or weeks, I would be in alot of pain and give up. I was blaming this on the Fibro, but I finally went last year to a podiatrist who took x-rays of my feet and determined that I two of the bones in my feet are fused together (they've been that way since I was born, but no one ever caught it). This means that my feet don't have a "normal" range of motion and all of the other joints are overworked. In fact an MRI determined that I had torn tendons in both my feet! Plus I'm already getting arthritis in my feet as a result of the fused bones. I'm only 42, and I would like to still be able to walk when I'm 72.

After gaining and losing weight for the last 20 years, I'm ready to make a permanent change that will improve all areas of my health. I'm looking forward to losing the CPAP machine, and having my feet not hurt!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
