Doctoring Up Low-Sodium Chicken Broth

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone!

I started my pre-op liquid diet this week. I'm allowed to have low-sodium chicken broth, but it is so bland! I've been throwing in different herbs and spices to give it flavor, but would love any suggestions you all might have for preparing the broth! Also, do any of you add anything to cottage cheese?

Thanks for your help!!

I am a big fan of adding red pepper to most Soups. I love spicy!

I never add anything to cottage cheese - but I'm interested in seeing other responses to this. I had never thought of adding anything to it. I have, however added it to stuff like mashed potatoes, to add some extra Protein. I suppose it could be added to other things (if you put it in the microwave or heat the mixture it doesn't seem like cottage cheese at all)

Love my Himalyan salt on cottage cheese or chopped melon...canteloupe or watermelon.

Himalyan Salt is a great source of essential minerals that table or sea salt does not have and will not make you retain Water or raise your blood pressure : )

I like to add Emeril's Essence or Bayou Blast or Curry Blends to bland Soup. I have a variety of spice blends from Dangold ( www.dangoldinc.com) many grocery's carry them too...The Gourmet Collection my favorite in chicken broth is the Chili & Lime reminds me of Lime soup I get in Mexico. All of their flavors are great and have no salt or msg in them. They are great too for when you get back to baking chicken and fish or other meats or veg. Just sprinkle and bake and you've got healthy yummy!

Weird as it sounds, Splenda and cinnamon is really good on cottage cheese...old Weight Watchers trick

Make it into hot and sour Soup. Yum! I use chicken stock for the base, anyway. Oh, or egg drop soup. Yum! I, too, added plenty of spices to my broths in the liquid stage because you'd be bored out of your mind otherwise.

The cinnamon on cottage cheese is good. I also stir in a tsp. of preserves sometimes. And don't forget that old ricotta dessert if you get bored of cottage cheese - I think it's ricotta, cocoa powder and splenda.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
