My recent posts talked about my slow loss starting from week 2. At the time I was barely eating 300cals but by week 3 I was eating about 500-600cals. All through this time my NUT insisted that my slow weight loss was because I am not eating enough. By week 4 I was eating a little over 800cals. Again my weight loss was a pound a week. On Monday I emailed my NUT my MFP food and exercise diary for the previous week. When I spoke with her she again insisted that I need to eat 1000calories. I have to note that I've worked out almost every day and my HRM showed i burned about 3100cals for last week. So Monday began the challenge to increase my calories which i did. What's shocking is that I was able to up my calories without much problems. I read on here that people are not getting hungry until month 4, 5 etc.

This is not the same with me, I do get hungry. The only difference is that very little gets me full (about 2 to 4oz depending on if its dense protein) but in another hour to two then I feel okay to eat, but I don't. I wait at least three hours to eat again. I do find that the more I workout the more my appetite comes. I will give this higher calorie range a shot and if that does not work I have to back out to 800cals or less. Folks are there any of you that have eaten that much so early on?

I have a hard time breaking 650 calories, and typically burn around 1200 calories daily at the gym. Keep in mind, it takes 3500 calories to burn one pound. If you're only burning 3100 calories/week in exercise, 1-2 lbs/week may be where you'll run. (In case you're interested, I've been averaging between 5 and 6 lbs/week lost since the week after my surgery.). Best of luck to you!!

Wow! 1200cals thats impressive. Is this with your HRM? I'm already doing the elliptical, kickboxing, spinning, and Total body class at the gym (weights) on various days. I noticed that there are a few post opers that do not workout as much or hardly ever and yet lose. You've given me something to think about when it comes to upping my calories. Thanks!

You also have to factor in what caloric needs your body has just to function not just exercise. So if your body needs say 1700 to maintain than any less calories, without exercise should mean a weight loss.

I didn't eat that much for a long while but everyone is different. I could have eaten that much, had I made different choices or forced myself to eat more at each meal.

The important thing is to track your food and your weight, and stop when you reach that point where what you're eating (either quantity or quality) is affecting your progress. For everyone it's completely different. Some of us need less calories and some of us need to avoid certain foods in order to lose weight.

Not everyone loses the hunger. And many, many people report that exercise increases your hunger. You are burning a lot of calories in a week and it's possible your body simply wants more fuel. It could be either in your case.

It's not one size fits all, so if you're simply a slower loser (I lost, on average, just over six pounds a month) but having consistent results with your current program, there is no need to change anything. If you're hungry all the time and can safely add more calories without sabotaging your loss, then do that.

The end goal is to find the happy place where you're feeling good about what you're eating and you're still losing.

Maybe she should of asked questions like I'm doing before the surgery

Marie

As you can read though Marie, there is no one answer for everyone. No one can tell you exactly how you will do with your surgery. Unfortunately it is not an exact science as everyone's body is different....................

I think she is doing the best she can and hearing all of the advice that she can to help her in her journey of weight loss.

Exactly why I'm asking people the different thing they crave or craves its curiosity on how others are doing

I agree eveyone is different, and I can understand your frustration. My suggestion would be up your Protein. I get 80-90 grams on 900 calories. Because of that I have not platued(sp) yet, and it has been almost 5 months.

Good luck and hang in there. Also remember lean muscle weights more than fat!!!!!!!

I completely understand! my surgeon is allowing me to have cream based Soups and yogurts (with no chunks of fruit) so I have a bit of a choice....

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
