Who Else Has Become A Pain In The Butt At Starbucks!?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Friday. I've been working from home. I have a stressful job. I decided that I felt good enough to go in, today. I haven't taken any of the good medicine since yesterday. The liquid Lortab makes me have dreams that I am in a Harry Potter movie, but I digress...

Anyway, I had to laugh today because on my way home from work I wanted something new to drink. I have been trying to add milk and Protein Shakes, but I'm having some "issues" with milk. So, I decided to be one of "those people." You know, those pain in the rear Starbuckians who request everything from the amount of foam, to the room in the cup, to the pumps of Syrup in their latte. I went to Starbucks and actually ordered a tall, sugar free Decaf soy vanilla latte. It's heaven (and completely on my diet plan, so don't make any smart comments about "listening to my doctor.") I may do this more often. I just felt like I had to apologize. I may not feel so weird making special orders when I am thin, but I feel as though a fat person being a pain in the rear regarding food is not good. I'm always trying to blend in or be extra nice so that people will like me even though I look like this. Has anyone else had a similar experience in their first days post sleeve? We don't want to draw attention to ourselves and what we eat because we're still fat, but we want to be able to socialize and be with friends in a restaurant enviornment....

I've been wondering if I could ever go to Starbucks again. God, I'd love a Matcha green tea frappacino w/no Syrup & 2 scoops of Protein, but have no idea if it's on my diet. We need a 'Diabetic-type' Starbuck's menu!!!!!

Oh honey, I am 2 years post op and a completely normal size for an American woman (10/12) and I STILL have issues with feeling like I should be embarrassed in public for a variety of things, like making special orders or not letting people cut in line! I am totally one of those people @ 'bux now, asking for all the secret off-menu stuff, including the off-menu size "short"! ;) No apologies!!

Yup- this is me at Peets or Starbucks.

"Hi, can I get a short iced nonfat sugarfree vanilla latte extra ice"

then I have to repeat

and repeat again

and then appologize with a shameful smile to the barista about being a PITA!

All picky customer sins are erased with a nice fat dollar in their tip jar though! :)

I'm always the one ordering a passion fruit iced tea with no sweetener. I get the "I know, I know...no sweetener". LOL

In my first weeks post sleeve, I felt the constant need to appologize to the waitress that I am not ordering food (becasuse I was sharing off my kids or husband's plate) or if I only ordered the Soup. It would drive my kids crazy (they are teenagers, so it does not take much...but I digress) My daughter would say, "Mom, you do not need to appologize or explain why you are not ordering more food!" I think for me it's more of being a people pleaser and the need to be overly considerate. I don't appologize any more, but I do still compensate my tip a bit. So I say, order your double skinny, sugar free latte (or whatever the Starbucks speak is) any way you like it, and ENJOY IT!

Yes I sometimes feel like I am reciting a monologue or something to order a coffee. You should try hazelnut with the soy latte if you haven't already. The soy really goes well with the nutty flavor.

Just break down the ingredoants, calories etc...the more we deprive ourselves of things that are actually doable the worse we feel. IMO :)

OMG Tracy, I feel the SAME way! I'm scared to go back to our favorite places and feel like I have to explain everything. Especially since my DH and I used to spend way too much money for two people at a Mexican restaurant on a Friday night. Yup - huge Entrees and a pitcher of super top shelf margaritas with Don Julio Tequila. We haven't been in over a month. Our poor waiter probably can't pay his light bill without our tip on Friday nights. LOL.

I agree, completely. Also, Starbucks has an app where you can build your own drink and it will give you all of the nutrition info. I knew I could have the sugar free coffee syrups, soy milk, and Decaf coffee. So, I put it together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
