How Long Until You Ate Salad, Steak, Bread?

Recommended Posts

I eat nuts as well with no problem.

One thing I do is measure my food. I measure about 2.5 ounces and eat that. If I eat too much, it does sit really heavy. I think my eyes still think I can eat a bigger portion, so, weighing out my food is a good idea for me. For example, the other night, I ate 2.5 ounces of pork steak and 1 ounce or brocolli for dinner. I measured so I knew exactly how much I ate. I did feel really full after, so next time, I am going to either forgo the broccolli, or if I really want that, I would decrease the meat by .5.

Go slow, but it's all up to your body.

I still have a really tough time with salad if it's made with iceberg. I have to eat actual greens or it makes me sick.

Steak took the longest - beef, in general, was the hardest for me to digest for a long time. I could eat it once I was cleared for regular food, but I could only eat a bite or two before feeling very full. Tonight I ate 3 oz. of a good steak, though, with no problem. Of course, if I couldn't do that at two years out I'd be a sad girl.

bread also took a long time. I still don't eat much of it. Not because I think it's bad or because I can't, but why waste my limited capacity on something that doesn't do much for me? I bake fresh bread and if I slice it thinly I can eat a whole grilled cheese on it, or half a regular sandwich (piled high). Bread, Pasta, tortillas and rice all swell in my tummy and it's very easy to go from feeling great to instant discomfort. So take those foods very slowly and stop after just a few small bites until you know how you'll do.

Good luck!

My dr told me I could eat anything as long as I can tolerate it. So far I have able to tolerate everything. I have not tried bread, Pasta or rice. I love streak and have no problem with it. Salads too

You should wait until 12 weeks out at least according to my doctor to have bread, rice, or Pasta because they all tend to swell.

I had steak from six weeks out. I can't eat much but I have no issues with the little bit I do eat. Tonight we had beautiful eye fillet steak, I had about 2oz, a tablespoon of peas and 4 oven baked sweet potato 'fries'. I am sufficiently replete!

I have arule that since I eat so little, I make sure I eat quality. So I don't mind spending more on getting good quality, grass fed, organic eye fillet beef because overall my grocery bill is less. Tonight's eye fillet was melt in the mouth rare and delicious!

Meant to add that in the mashies stage I had rice pudding with no issues though could only manage two tablespoons! I have had well toasted bread on 3 occasions but find I don't really care for it. Which is odd as i have always loved bread I'm not going to have Pasta for another three months given the swell factor. I find myself missing pasta on occasions.

I haven't tried steak as of yet. chicken sits really heavy with me, so I'm afraid of steak. I've had bread a few times and slimed, so no bread either. No problems with salad or Pasta.< /p>

I am three weeks out, surgery was 7/24, and I can eat steak. Today was the first time I tried and I had no problems. I went to Applebee's with my team for lunch. I only ate about an ounce, cut it up really small, and chewed it completely - and about a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. I brought the leftovers home and I had another ounce of steak and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. The hubs ate the rest. (He told me I should go to Applebee's more often!) Not bad for a $10 meal that fed me twice, and the hubs once. :)

it was really a trial and error kind of thing for me. I would try a little something and then wait and see if I could handle it. you will know really fast if you can. i really didnt have problems with anything, except when I tried to drink anything with food....big NO NO! good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
