Yay Starting Soft Foods!

Recommended Posts

I I started soft foods yesterday and the only thing I've tried really so far is a 1 egg omelette and a sprinkle of ff cheese. Am I supposed to get full after a couple of bites? Because I can't eat the whole egg but about half of it, in like a 30 min setting. Kinda freaking out! Love the egg though :D

I just asked this because I was the opposite. I was able at 1 month to eat a whole piece of whole wheat toast with an egg. The answers varied. Mostly people were like you- not able to do the whole thing yet at this point.

Wasn't that the most delicious thing in the world though- after all that time on liquids/purees?!

I had the same experience. Each week I feel like I can eat a little more, but it still amazes me how little I need before I get full. Isn't it crazy? My eyes still haven't caught up to the size of my stomach.

My eyes still think my stomach is still pre-op size. Every time I go to get food I'm like well of course I could handle this much! It's like nothing. And then halfway through I'm like ohhh....can't eat the rest. It's really pretty goofy.

I'm really confused about the food stages. I'm pre-op obviously. The first 2 weeks I'm on full liquids, then solids. I was told solids mean purée? I can image purée 'ing meats. Yuck!

You'll be surprised at what you want after the liquid only stages and how all of a sudden tastes are wonderful that never were.

And, occasionally, things you loved you can't even stand to smell.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
