Tomorrow Is The Big Day! Oh Dark Thirty In The Morning...

Recommended Posts

I am tired of the liquid no-calorie fast, so I'm almost looking forward to the OR tomorrow. At least then I can have Protein and I probably won't be hungry anyway!

Honestly, I am very nervous. I've never had this serious of a surgery before and I'm scared I won't wake up, or that I'll have a leak. Prayers are appreciated (for those who pray) and positive thoughts are always welcome!

See you all on the loser's bench! :rolleyes:

I understand how you feel. I was the very same way. I don't like anything that has to do w/hospitals but I did this last week and I am glad I did. It is done and over with. You won't know it and there was no pain involved either. Try to relax and stay close to God, he does hear our prayers. My favorite scripture is ;

(Isaiah 41:10) 10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness.’

I don't know your name, but try to think of some of the best times in your life, b/c their will be many more. This next time your body will feel better making those memories.

I hope to hear from you again. Take baby steps.

My name is Julie and I have all the confidence that you will do fine.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
