Keeping Options Open - Thanks For Sharing Your Stories On This Board :)

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have read through quiet a few threads about being sleeved in Mexico. At first I thought this would never be an option for me because all you hear are horror stories about people getting procedures done outside of the states and normally it is you get what you paid for.

But, this board and all of the positive experiences that you all have shared have helped me keep an open mind.

My insurance recently changed and the new provider has weight loss surgery as an exclusion which as we know means if I would like to have this done I need to pay out of pocket. One place that I was looking into just called me today and mentioned it would be $22,000, well I do not have that type of money. I do have one more appointment with another doctor Sept 11th we'll see how much they will charge but in the meantime I am looking into getting things rolling with Dr.Garcia in Tijuana as I think this is ultimately the place I am going to go to get it done.

Like I mentioned, just wanted to thank you all for sharing your experiences:)

Definitely research who you want to have be your surgeon. I was uncomfortable with going to Mexico, so my research led me to Dr Umbach in Las Vegas. It was outpatient for $10,400. It was a great experience and I would recommend him to everyone. Plus, you get a little vacation in Vegas, BABY!

Good luck to you. I don't think you will regret your choice of Dr. Garcia at Hospital MI Doctor. He and his staff were wonderful and the hospital was very clean and the nurses sweet and caring. We will go back to TJ for other medical procedures. We felt totally safe and in good hands with the doctors and staff there.

Not sure where you live, but you can find several doctors in the US that charge 10-11K. I chose to go to Mexico too. I've heard great things about Dr. Garcia on the forum, and I'm sure you'll be very happy.

Save yourself some time and email for prices. I sent emails to all the larger cities surrounding where I live. I ended up choosing Dr Garcia and I am scheduled for 8/31.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
