Am I Really Losing Weight?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved May 29th and my journey has been full of ups and downs. So now 2 1/2 months out I am on the upside. I just don't feel smaller! People keep saying wow Ken you have really lost weight or wow ur smaller. I notice my clothes or looser BUT... my eyes don't see it. I wanna see it sooo bad. And I know this was not brain surgery..but a lil preception surgery may be needed. I have lot abt 40lbs... still somewhat in the same size clothes...anyway. I am afraid to even try on smaller clothes..what if they don't fit...then what...Depression.

Help advise needed

Go try on smaller sizes! But go to the stores you normally shop at. That way the clothes are made the same as you are used to and you will be able to realistically see the difference. I felt the exact same way. Go try some stuff on!

I think before/during/after pictures work wonders when it comes to seeing your own weight loss progress! Often you are the last one to see the difference because you have nothing to compare yourself to! You don't notice the change because you get use to what you are seeing. If you were to take your picture once a month (at the same or around the same time) you could compare the pictures and see the difference!

Yep, this is how we all are. We struggle with seeing ourselves getting smaller. We get smaller but have the same body structure as before pretty much. We are a mini version of our former selves, but we fit into tiny size clothing. That's where are exercise comes in and helps tone our bodies. But you are smaller and comparing pics are a great way to see a difference. Keep it up, you are getting smaller! :)

I'm 70 lbs down, yet when I look in the mirror I see the same person pre surgery staring back at me. I've only dropped maybe 3 pant sizes, still in the plus size dept however. I've known a few people who have had wls and they dress so differently than they used to, me? I'm still covered up every chance I get. Baggy clothes, layers if possible. My brain has a lot to catch up with.

When I look in the mirror I have a hard time seeing the results of losing almost 70 lbs. BUT...when I look in my closet, and see tops and pants that are 3 sizes smaller, I KNOW that I'm smaller! I can't believe I can wear shirts that look so little (compared to my old clothes)!! Go try on clothes...even if you don't buy anything, you'll correct the thinking in your brain!

Well .... I did it I tried on smaller clothes. It's so upsetting because I don't wanna be sad. I fit these pants that I had for yearsssss you know the ones you never give away because you tell your self I'm gonna lose weight and get into these. Not only did I fit them ... I had too much room. I still am having problems losing the fat girl in the mirror.

Why does she still wave at me like... No matter how much you lose...I'm here. The mirror even told me the only reason the med shirt fits is because it's a big med.... ugggh

I have dropped 3 sizes in three months, lost 37lbs since surgery 76 since last November when I put myself on a 6 month diet. I don't see changes when I look in the mirror, I still tend to grab bigger sizes first because I don't think that the 24s I need will really fit. Eventually my brain and eyes will get with the program.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
