Warning! Angry And Discouraged

Recommended Posts

For 10 years I sustained the same weight between 250/260 lbs eating 3,000-4,000 cal a day (or more!!) and not working out. Now, after being sleeved 7/9, I lost 18 lbs the first week, then 2 lbs IN A MONTH. How is it possible that I am sustaining 237-240 lbs (goes back and forth, depending on how much liquid intake i have) at 600 cal a day, 60gr Protein, and working out? I log eerything into myfitness pal. My carbs are on the higher side 50-60 gr average (usually lentils, beans) but why would that matter if I am doing things SO differently and calorie intake is so different. I expected stalls, just not immediately. Loosing no weight this early on for so long makes me think, why even try? I've tried different things, such as eating more cals certain days and eating no carbs others. I hate my body and my body hates me. I hate working out any way and with no incentive to keep me going, well I am just feeling that I don't care anymore. I am so upset. I give up!!!!

Awwww I hope you get some good answers...so sorry about all your work and not getting the pay off.

I'm sure you know they say it has to happen-- but it's not now- so I'm sorry. :(

(((Kiki))) Don't give up quite yet. Your body is going to shock the heck out of you in a few days. Everyone experiences stalls, especially when they first start exercising. Add to that that this is a weight where your body was comfortable before and you've got the makings of a grand old stall! Ease up on the workouts a little bit and add a little food to your daily routine for a few days. I'm betting your stall will break and in a BIG way. I lost my first pants size during a stall. One day they fit fine and the next day I walked out of them, literally.

Lastly, all that loss has freed up a ton of hormones into your system. You are going to experience wild mood swings and the strangest thoughts. I seriously considered swallowing the lid to a Water bottle one morning...just to see if I could. BTW, I don't advise it...it was just a stray thought that went through my head! LOL Once my hormones calmed down, then the thought process did as well.

18 pounds in a month is fantastic. Add in the two pounds this month and you've lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months! Tell me when you could do that before the sleeve! :)

I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes working out actually produces endorphins that will help you get through being so frustrated. I'm addicted to exercise these days. :)

Good luck!!

hmm Did you try to go to liquid diet again? Did you discuss it with your doctor?

from one point it is only a month and a half from your surgery.

What about inches? did you measure yourself? usually then there is a stall the size is decreasing.....

Lissa I'm literally laughing out loud over the thinking about swallowing the water bottle lid. I thought something similar today--- like an urge that made no sense.

OY...I'm a teacher. I seriously hope I don't get weird thoughts while teaching...like yelling "You didn't do your homework!!! 50 sit ups now!!!!"

Hey Kiki we were sleeved the same day and have lost almost the same amount of weight. The difference? I did NOT lose 18 pounds the first week. It was 5 immediately and then stall. The next week 6 then stall for days. This pattern has continued each week. My body stops and adjusts to the loss. And that's what you're doing now which is why we're in the same place. Different pattern but same result. 20 pounds in less than 2 months. Yay us!

Maybe calories a bit low? Talk to your nutritionist, mine suggested that I up my calories. Too few calories and your body goes into weight conservation mode.

Thank you for your support. I am crying feeling hopeless, but listening to you makes me think that maybe, just maybe, I am not doomed to be morbidly obese and uncomfortable in my own skin forever.

This is my biggest fear! I fear that I would go and have the surgery done and then hit a stall right out of the gate and be so very frustrated and mad at myself for having this surgery.

I just don't understand what is going on for you? You definitely should be losing something.

Does this happen often to people where they have the surgery and don't lose the weight - seriously???

No. There is not a chance unless someone coincidentally gets a thyroid problem exactly at the same time (treatable). Impossible. I never heard of a case of anyone anywhere restricting calories and weight not coming off.

You're going to do it... and it will be so appreciated after/because of your hard work.

You are stalling..... it happens to everyone and usually hits 3-4 weeks post-op Did you measure yourself??? When I stalled, I lost the most inches! I will be 4 months out on Thursday and I am down almost 80 lbs and have lost 10 inches each on my hips, waist AND chest.... So, 30 inches and 80 lbs in 4 months?? yeah.. I'll take it!! You WILL start losing again... TRUST ME!!! Your body is playing catch up...

Stop worrying and just keep doing what you are doing..... the weight will come off!!

you've lost 20 lbs that wont be coming back. :)

you're doing good; we all stop and start our weight losses but we do all lose.. some of us stalled a full six weeks but we didn't gain and we definitely started losing again. *hugs* ive felt this way as well but always remember the weight amount you've lost not the days/ weeks intervals u lost it. the bigger picture is the amount lost and your doing fantastic :)

I feel exactly the same way. My surgery was 7/20. I have lost only 10 lbs since the surgery, most of that the first week, while I lost 13 on liquids the week prior to surgery. I keep thinking--I'm not eating fast food, fried food, pizza, carbs, sweets...not drinking beer or soda...all the things I used to love....and when I DO eat, it's such a small amount and primarily all protein...and yet I'm just not losing like everyone said I would. It is VERY discouraging!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
