What was your timeline for progressing to solid food after surgery?

Differant surgeons have differant diets; so listen to your surgeon for how he wants you to proceed.

Here's what mine was:

2 weeks - Clear liquids

2 weeks - Full liquids

2 weeks - Mushies/Soft food

Then a fill and onto solid foods

I was on liquids for 10 days, mushies for a week and then full solids.

I was banded last Thursday. I have one week of clear fluids which I am almost over - a good thing! - two weeks of full fluids, two weeks of mushies, followed by two weeks of soft food and lotsa chewing. I am often troubled by fantasies of Pasta and filet mignon done extra-rare but everytime I grab my big gut I remember why I am doing this and that kills my appetite for a little while.:girl_hug: I am also afraid of cheating on the diet because I don't want to get slippage and have to go under the knife again!

I was banded on Tuesday, Sept. 12. I will have 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, then 4 weeks of pureed/mushies and then onto solids. So two months pre-op is when I can start solids according to my dr. Also, no red meat for 6 months, but I don't eat read meat anyway.

My doctor made me wait 6 weeks for solids, but didn't make me do pre-op diet. As others have said, each doctor is different. i would follow your doctors guidelines

Mine was the same, I can't imagine being allowed to do solid food after ONE week, that seems REALLY risky to me. Better safe than sorry, I want my band to stay there and not budge a BIT! Sammysue78

Here was my doc's recommended schedule:

four weeks full liquids

two weeks mushy food

two weeks "soft solids"

Regular food

Here's what I ended up actually doing:

Three weeks full liquids

Two weeks mushy

Solids

It worked fine for me and he was fine with my progression. He told me the rules are more of a guideline and people have to progress at the their own pace.

2 weeks liquid (did not have to be clear)

Just had 2 week follow up and have been moved to mushies/soft food until my 6 week check up. (another 4 weeks) My Doc did not require any liquid diet before just to try to lose 10 pounds to shrink my liver. I did not lose it all but my recovery has been great so far. Have lost 17 pounds and my clothes fit me loser than before.

2 weeks of clear liquids, 3 weeks of full liquids and some mushies. Then 2 weeks of solid foods before he'll do a fill.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
