One Month--Quantity Of Food Question About You

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 7/16

So, I've been a good patient. :)

I've luckily been able to get all my Protein in through food or shakes since the beginning- never had a problem tolerating any liquids.

I'll get this weird blockage like lump feeling in my throat when it's time to stop as I eat slowly, chewing carefully.

I was allowed to start eating soft foods today and I couldn't wait to have an egg and a slice of toast (whole wheat). They were on my "soft list" of course. I know protein first yada, yada and that's what I'll do but it was my first piece of bread in over a month (between 2 week liquid diet before and then 2 week liquid and puree) and IT WAS AMAZING!!!

So now it's 5 hours later and I'm not hungry. That's another one of the reasons it's probably not a good idea to have the carbs-- but whatever, I wanted that toast and glad I finally had it.

Question--- It seems like a lot to eat without ANY restriction. I swear I ate the egg and bread and had not one pain, gurgle, nothing. Are/were any of you able to eat that much at a sitting so early out?

I'm not scared per se because since I'm not hungry yet I know my sleeve "works." But that quantity?

I feel like people say all I could eat was 1/2 an egg at my point and have to stop...

I've done homework so I will continue my good protein first etc. just wondering about your quantity.

Thanks a lot!

I was sleeved the same day and I can definitely eat an entire egg. I don't do the toast but egg is fine.

Me personally no and I can’t even eat a slice of toast and a egg in one go right now at 13 weeks!

I do think you have to not force food in but not wait till your hungry to eat you should eat at set times waiting till your feeling hungry (which you won’t) can make you try to eat more and then be sick.

I posted this the other day it might help you and know that not all sleeves are the same size even if they take the same amount away

lcox1101--I assume you're choosing not to eat it...(which is smart) but I mean, could you?

I think most people say a bite of bread, Pasta, etc. and they are full.

Sassy - yeah, I've seen that video-- hmmm I wonder also about how fast people heal too. I've never been sick and I do have set times but get really full for long periods...hmmm hence I should make my meals less even though I can eat more...got it.

I do take my time and am measuring usually. Yesterday I had a half cup of cottage cheese and a small yogurt for Breakfast and again--- easy peasy.

I always have 2-35 grams of Protein Shakes a day and my calories are about 500-700 a day right now.

For me I can eat 1oz at a time if its soft maybe as much as 1 and half or 2 like yogurt but if its more solid no way plus it takes about a hour to eat that!

The one time I put 4oz of chilli in a bowl I still had some over 6 hours later it’s a little pathetic at times lol

Your not meant to starve yourself, so if you think your eating too much just call the nurse or nut and ask them they will tell you if its ok.

I think you have the choice too of 6 small meals or 3 larger meals and a couple of little Snacks or you can cut Snacks out its how you want to eat the little and often or bigger and not so often.

Honestly I would rather be able to eat more than this little its very time consuming and I am sick a lot because i can’t hold very much, can’t even drink a full cup of tea in one sitting lol

That does seem a little frustrating. On the other hand over time you'll probably lose a lot more than me..

I have my one month on Thurs., 2 appts.-- one with the dietician and then my surgeon. I plan talk about this and other questions- just wanted a barometer of how others do also.

About snacks- all I do is still popsicles, (rarely) sf pudding, and I love just slowly licking these laughing cow 35 calorie cheeses.

I was introduced to laffing cow just this sunday past and I liked it. My dr told me I could have toast but only one slice and only toasted (which is how I like it anyway). I tried the laffing cheese on the toast and homerun, I liked it. 2g Protein from the toast and 2g from the cow. B) moo moo

If I eat chicken or salmon I get stuffed very fast but if I have Greek frozen yogurt I can eat a lot more of it. It seriously is a day to day thing with me. But I would not stress yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
