How low was it? Mine gets low from time to time. Most recently from dehydration during pre-op diet, and man could I tell! I was waking up with Charlie Horses.

Other causes could be frequent/excessive urination, sweating, or diarrhea.

I haven't had this problem yet, but, I do have a recommendation. Try drinking coconut Water. It has a ton of potassium, it's low calorie & really helps hydration.

I had this condition with the lapband. I was sleeved July 3rd however, this condition can be very serious. I low potassium slows down your heart and gives you low blood pressure. Makes you weak and dizzy. I thought low blood pressure that's good right? It is the opposite of high blood pressure. You can have a heart attack because your heart can stop. I ended up in the ER and they not only gave me 2 potassium IV I had to take a bunch of potassium pill orally. It was the worst feeling.

That's scary! Do you know what could have caused your potassium to dip so low? Both low potassium and high potassium could result in cardiac arrest. I bet you felt like crud. Glad you've lived to tell the tale though!

Try drinking some Vitamin Water Zero, Powerade Zero or Gaterade G2. It really helped to keep me hydrated after surgery and has the added potassium that you need.

Low-sodium V-8 juice has the most potassium of any drink/food I've found. It made my muscle cramps go away when I had low potassium.

They put three or four bags of potassium back into me the day after my surgery. This was seriously one of the most uncomfortable parts of my surgery experience.

I absolutely second the coconut Water. That's exactly what I was going to suggest when I saw the post. There are several brands out now and I find it all over the place including costco, Target & my local grocery store.

I'll have to check the potassium in V-8 to the coconut Water, that's an interesting comparison.

I started a work out routine. I didn't even work out hard. I was walking and drinking Water. I went around I think twice. Soon after I passed out.

Where do you find coconut Water?? With drinks?

Most convenience stores & better grocery stores have it now, it is also available in health/naturalist stores. I buy mine through Amazon by the case. It's not cheap, but oh so good. I pay 25 for a case of 12 (16oz cans) and free shipping. Or 6 32oz cartons is the same price. Same price per oz, but it does taste a bit better from the carton. The can is just more convinient for me, and recyclable.

The V8 does have more potassium

It is a much richer drink with more nutrients all around.

But the coconut Water hydrates better as it passes through your stomach & digests faster.

Both are great IMO. I do drink both.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
