Gallbladder Ultrasound

Recommended Posts

Ultrasounds are noninvasive, so I don't see why you would have to be NPO. The purpose of NPO is to make sure the patient doesn't vomit from use of sedation or the introduction of tools down either the airway or esophagus, because you could develop aspiration pneumonia. If that's the only procedure you have planned, it shouldn't be NPO (at least in my nursing experience, but guidelines change all the time, so call the day before just to be 100%).

If you had this' date=' do you have to fast before it I can't remember??[/quote']

For mine it was no food or drink after 11pm the day before the ultrasound. I'm pretty sure that's standard.

You're right! I just looked it up. Sorry I was used to ultrasounds we do on the cardiac unit which is looking at the valves, and also renal ultrasounds--which neither require NPO. I completely overlooked when OP had mentioned gallbladder!

If you eat before your ultrasound they probably won't let you have it done. Eating makes your gallbladder contract and therefore completely ruins chances of accuracy

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
