I only hear people talking about how good do they look after surgery. The only thing I want w this surgery is for me too be able to be healthier. Although I know there are some health risks w this procedure!! I need to pick between Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Gonzales. Does anybody has any suggestions. I dont know I am afraid of picking one. I want a doctor who will do a good job!!!!

I think all of us here want to be healthier. Many of us have diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, arthritis and all of those lovely conditions related to obesity. But I am not ashamed to say that I want my figure back., look good in clothes, wear heels, and all that healthy BMIers enjoy.

Have you TRIED exercising?

OMG, no! Gee I wish I had thought of that! Thanks so much for the tip, I'm on my way now. If only I had thought of that sooner. Exercising huh? Who knew?

And, when shopping in the WOMEN's department (which is typically either next to maternity or in the basement!), I happened to overhear a girl in her 20's and her mom talking. They had accidentally crossed the line between winter coats and Women's clothes. The mom says "OMG these are huge. Oh wait, we're in the wrong department, these are for monsters." she glanced up and saw me, whispered something to her daughter and they both left snickering.

I can't wait for my mother to stop saying " you just hab to hab a self control" she says it just like that too she's a Crazy Asian Lady lol.... Really though it is especially annoying because my mom is one of those people who eats tons knows nothing about dieting and weighs 108 pounds soaking wet.... I obviously inherited my metabolism from my father.

I totally get you. I'm not biologically asian, but my family is Chinese. I love them to death, but they are not at all shy about talking about people's weight and letting you know when you've put on a few pounds. I've been told I need to watch my diet (while they are shoving food in my face) many times. I've had a child loudly ask me in a room full of people why I'm so fat while her parents sat and listened. She went on and on about how I just needed to eat less meat and I'm the fattest person she's ever met etc...on and on. Most Americans would tell their children that this kind of thing hurts people's feelings, but Asians are so open about talking about weight that they just let this child humiliate me in front of everyone. Another time an adorable little Chinese girl told me (again in front of a lot of people) that my back is as big and squishy as my tummy. Again nothing was said. I'm mostly used to it because it's part of the culture, but it still stings a little.

Holy cow. That's when I take my fat a** and steam roll right by them. As they fall on their butts, I'll say " shoot, I can't seem to control my monsterous a**, oops" ugh

Yes I understand the bluntness lol. I tried explaining to my husband (caucasian) that the bluntness is part of the culture and not her being a "horrible mother". He didnt understand. My mom is a little better now bc she realizes she is hurting her children's feelings but she is definitely for the surgery. She is actually willing to take time off work to take care of my family for when I have my sleeve done... And you know Filipinos don't miss work for anything lol.

My Paternal Grandpa was born and raised in Ilocus Norte, Phillipines. My Dad was 1/2 Filipino. My Aunts were all short and chunky until they neared their 50's. That is when they all lost weight. I have the same body shape as them, but am heavier than they were. They all have said things about my weight over the years and it gets me so upset. They and some of my cousins talk about my weight as if I am the only one in the family with a weight issue. I will never criticize anyone's weight once I reach my goal. It is hurtful and we often don't know what led to the person's weight gains. In my case, it was depression after losing both of my folks while still in my 20's.

I was on a diet, ate "too much" lasagne one night, got really depressed and said "ugh I just feel like throwing it up!"

Friend says: "sometimes you just have to do that"

Un-friggin- believable!!!

To a normal fat person = abhorrent

To previously anorexic fat person = life threatening (lol I almost killed her)

I want to be healthier, I want to get rid of my stupid C-pap for sleep apnea, I want to walk up and downstairs without it hurting my back and ankles.I want my BP to go back down where it should be. I want all of that and more.... The more being I want to look SMOKIN HOT again !!! I am not gonna say it is for health reasons only bc that would be a big fat lie. I want to feel good about myself when I look in the mirror and not be deluded...

I once had a patient ask me, "so is it a boy or a girl?". I was confused for a split second then realized he was referring to my stomach. I was so embarrassed, I told him girl and left lol. Aghh mortifying, but he wasn't being ugly lol. I never wore those scrubs again.

I went for a massage once when I was around 240 lbs. The woman acted like she didn't want to be touching me - (you know how when you ask someone for a massage and they just rub you really lightly because they don't want to do it). So I asked her to push harder and she said "well you have a lot of adipose here. I can't get any deeper." I was mortified. (talked to the manager the next day and they have me a complimentary massage with a fabulous masseuse.). I'm now at 275 and waiting for insurance approval. Haven't been for a massage in years. Can't wait to go back!

So awful lawdiva!!! I hate that look of disgust some people get towards me for my weight!

More than my weight, I get offended if people think I'm stupid in class, just because I'm on a diff wave length to them or something. BUT, that look of "ewwwww gross flubber" just makes my blood boil!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
