lol, you really are new....

Did you actually talk to the nurse when she called you?? Did you make a appt to see the doctor???

I would take it from there and ask questions about their process because the requirements vary, its based on what your insurance requires as well as what the doctor requires....

For me, I went to the seminar and had already scheduled a consult with my surgeon for the next day. During the consult he agreed that the sleeve was a good choice. Then I scheduled my H Pylori test and resting metabolism test (I had to wait two weeks as I was on a proton pump inhibitor which needed to be stopped two weeks prior to the H pylori.) Meanwhile I went to the first required class "Steps to Success" and started practicing some of the habits I would need for the future. I also went and saw my psychiatrist and he wrote me a letter of recommendation.

Because I was a self pay it cut through a lot of red tape and as soon as I ponied up the surgeon's fees and program fees I was able to schedule surgery. I scheduled it 1 month out and immediately started the 4 week required diet preop. I then went to the surgery center, paid them their fee and did my pre labs and ekg. I then called the anesthesiologist group to pre pay for that.

So my time line went from the seminar on 5-22-12 to surgery on 7-30-12. This is pretty quick but I saved a lot of time being self pay, and I already had a psychiatrist for the evaluation. I also saved on some of my labs as my rheumatologist runs them regularly and I was able to use those for some of the required stuff.

Hope this helps! Good luck on your journey :)

Hi, I went to the seminar last December - kinda by chance. My primary care doctor mentioned surgery, I cried and felt like a failure. But in between tears, I looked online and saw a seminar was at my local office in like 2 weeks. So I signed up online and went.

To my surprise (i guess), I was "in" the program and that's that. My insurance co. requires 6 months of dietician. I did that. I lost the same 10 lbs about 3 times over this 6 months.

I start my pre-op diet Wed and have surgery scheduled for 8/29.

Back in Dec, the idea of possibly waiting til AUGUST was ridiculous, but now the time is here faster than I knew it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
