Is anyone out there (I am 6 weeks post op tomorrow) suffering from extreme Constipation? I know this is TMI, but I feel like I am so backed up that anything I eat is now just sitting at the top of my sleeve and if I wanted to throw up I could. I can't take this. I am miserable. I am taking stool softeners (2 twice a day). I have held my Iron for about 5 days now as well to see if that made things improve.

Fleet suppository? I am too early to be constipated. Praying I don't get it, but the fleet always helped my kids.

No help here, just wanted to say Im sorry you are going through this. I have the exact opposite issue....although I am not eating "real" food yet, everything I take in comes straight out within an hour or so...uuuggh. I cant wait until there are some solids going in.

I can't take Iron AT ALL because it makes the Constipation even worse. Even without it I have major problems. I am taking Miralax but it doesn't seem to be enough to make the difference. I will be curious what other people have to say. Good luck!

Milk of magnesia. Just don't plan on going anywhere that day ;)

I was do badly constipated I wanted it surgically removed. I know... TMI, but really the pain while on the potty was horrible. But then I had some MOM and I felt so much better. Good luck.

Btw, it gets better :)

I am a pharmacist, so I have tried everything mentioned. Miralax has just never ever worked for me, even pre op. Dulcolax does the trick, but it is not a good idea to take a laxative like that all the time. I haven't tried any Fiber supplements post op, but I Did during my first pregnancy and it was not pleasant.....tons of bloating. I think I will try fiber again. It's sort of funny I have this issue because I have spent many years on advising people on how to relieve Constipation. I took a probiotic for 30'days straight several months back, I didn't notice any improvements in my digestive health either..lol.

Magnesium pills help for this. They have been my savior in the past, but now I need extra help. I take a Magnesium and a Doucalax almost every day and still don't go every day.

I tried the Ducolax and it was very effective. I couldn't make the Miralax work, it congealed in the cup before I could drink it! I'm finally settling into a rhythm without aids but it is NOT every day like pre op. Is there anything in your diet that could be making this a chronic problem? I love cheese but it does cause Constipation for me.

Milk of magnesia worked really well. I agree don't go anywhere that day though. It was painless and no cramps.

I have started a magnesium supplement. It's supposed to help with depression (a certain formula) and I thought it would help with this but so far it hasn't. Right now, my diet consists of some dairy but I need the Protein. I have had some problems with gastritis and the doctor told me to try eating only the foods I knew I could eat for a few days. That was on Wednesday. I had eaten some rotisserie chicken the night before and threw it up almost immediately and was really having a lot of nausea. So, I eat yogurt or cottage cheese once a day and may eat a snack size piece of cheese. I use soy milk for my Protein shakes and it is non- dairy. I have eaten so many refried Beans I am sick of them and you would think thise would help. I just cannot get all my Water in and especially like this. I am a hot mess.

Only thing that works for me, and I've tried it ALL, is milk of magnesia and lots of Water after.

My Dr said that when you're that severely backed up, nothing you take orally will ever help. He said. Fleet enema is the best course of action. Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
