pinkbwlr16 20 Posted August 28, 2012 I had surgery on the 21st and have one currently. They told me mine is pretty bad and glad I came in today about it. They gave me a liquid antibiotic to take to get rid of it. I'm trying to drink more Water, definitely know easier said than done. Also trying to eat more Popsicles cause those are easier to get in. I also picked up a sugar free slurpee to try and get in more fluids.
NDN_RN 527 Posted August 28, 2012 Definitely increased fluids help flush out the infection. Vitamin c to acidify your urine as well as any prescription you were given. I have seen many post sleevers had a urinary catheter post op. whenever a catheter is introduced, there is always a posibility of infection. NOT ALWAYS, but occassionally. Feel better, UTIs can be miserable.
*susan* 1,709 Posted August 28, 2012 Girl, I was the queen of UTI's and kidney infections the first month after my surgery. I had an awful time getting my Water in and ended up in the hospital on IV fluids three times due to severe dehydration. Finally, I just had to conciously force myself to sip, sip, sip all day long. It is tough, but the only way you are going to feel better is to force yourself to drink. And, you will find that the more you do, the easier it gets.
