acampbell16... can your job leagally prevent you from using sick time for the surgery??? you need to check on that. it should not matter what kind of surgery it is. also fill out the disablility papers. The one good thing about Dr. Aceves was that he left it up to us when we felt comfortable going back to work. Most that i know took a month off and one person took 3 months and he covered it. Also when I spoke to my HR dept and told them i was having surgery they handed me the disability papers and told me to let them know what days they needed to put as my sick days no questions asked. even if your doctor doesnt think more than 5 days is needed your hr dept should be more supportive. BTW I was private pay and did not use my insurance but did use my UNUM which was great.

You need to fill out FMLA paperwork, so that your job is protected just in case things don't go as planned and you can't come back in 2 days. I think a week is way to soon but since everyone is different .... just be careful not only is your body stressed but adapting to a new way of eating is a major change.

i am a nurse and so took 4 weeks off also to be safe. then took it easy the first couple weeks back. staff was great' date=' helpfuland understanding and not letting me do to much.[/quote']

Yikes, this makes me nervous! I'm an ICU nurse and took only 2 weeks off, and our patients are massive, most unable to move. I feel bad but I'm thinking I will have to ask for a lighter load.

I was out for one week. It wasn't fun putting on real pants with a button again but I wouldn't say it was too soon. 2 vac days might be a bit quick though. Can you take sick time?

I am a nurse too ( you know why Isobella ;) lol) I am supposed to start a new job in L&D and have been worried about the amount of time I will need to take off... They may not like it but I will take as much time as I need after my surgery. Depending on my surgery date I may delay my start date for work but idk....We shall see

The dr said 5 days are more then enough i guess i will see when i get there my job wont even let me use my sick days for the surgery

I don't think they can prevent you from using your sick if you have them.. If you are in pain or having issues you ARE SICK so I would use them.

Haha yes, we fit our stereotypes quite well! Surely they will understand. Plus that you will be on orientation for the first few weeks anyways, right? If you're going to be with a preceptor, they shouldn't need you just yet. But hopefully your sx date will work out for you!

I'm so glad that I read this post. My Dr. told me that (with a sit down job) I should have no problem taking only a week. I so hope I won't even need that long. Optimistic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
