Calories Intake Too Low

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks post op and am trying out different foods I can and can't have, so far I keep things down just fine but I am struggling with eating 6-800 calories , I usually get in around 450-500 and I am always full. I've tried snacking here and their (on healthy items) but I still can't get in more calories. Am i going to be ok and lose weight still? My sleeve is very tight! I also work out 4-5 times a week usually elliptical or treadmill and I'm down 25 pounds since preop . I was sleeved July 7 by Dr. Alvarez.

food struggle is real for a lot of us after being sleeved. You are doing well, I'm four weeks and am not where near that amount. I struggle with one or two bites per meal. So keep doing what you are and I am sure you'll reach that goal soon.

I was sleeved by Dr Almanza- May 15- and I don't think I have ever gotten 800 calories in! Mine is usually between 300-400 now- and I work out twice a day (walking at least a mile and a half each time- and sometimes hiking 3-4 miles) so sometimes I end up on myfitnesspal with 100-200 or less calories. My scale moves every day. I have never gone up- my stalls are still losing a quarter to a half a pound a day. Everyone's body is different- but to answer- yes you may still lose weight with low calories- I do. What work for some doesn't for others- but when I'm full I stop- and I don't eat bread, rice, flour, etc at all, so I am making new habits- losing old ones. My body is SO much happier without me loading it up with crap.

:) good luck in our journeys- and embarking on some just AMAZING new things!!!!

I was sleeved on May 15- pre op loss 4lbs- 65 since surgery- total 69 lbs

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
