Recommended Posts

Hi All:

I am heading back to work this week and I am so ready to get out of the house. My biggest issue is what to take to work for food? I am currently on purée stage and other than a Protein shake and maybe Soup I don't to ow what to pack. I would love to hear some great ideas.

Thanks!

I'm going back to work tomorrow. Im a hairdresser, & im gonna try to work 4hrs for 4 days this week. I'm so nervous about it, I'm sticking to shakes while there, & try my newer 'mushy foods' list @ home, in case it doesn't agree. I've tried instant mashed potatoes w/ garlic, salt, & pepper, & I Cant Believe It's Nor Butter. Far free refried Beans w/a dollop of avacado & fat free sour cream. Sweet potato, laughing cow cheese & crackers. Yogurt & almond butter. sugar free applesauce. Protein Powder in sugar. Pureeing thicker Soups. Hummus. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the ideas! So far I have a Protein shake in the morning for Breakfast, then some applesauce for a snack. For lunch I have Soup like Tomato or cream of broccoli. Then I might have a yogurt for a snack. I haven't really been that hungry so today I didn't have my yogurt but yesterday I did. So far so good without any problems. Except for today I left out a pretty loud burp and everyone looked at me and we got a good laugh.

The people I work with know I had surgery but don't know what it was for. They are going to have to get used to be burping a lot I guess...lol

How long as a hairdresser take off of work after having surgery done?

I took 13 days off & then am working 1/2 days this week. Today was my 1st day back, no blowdry's yet (they work the abdominal muscles too much), shampooing, or sweeping. 4hrs. I felt exercised, but sore @ the end. Came home & napped. Maybe full days next week; I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Yogurt

The ricotta cheese bake (recipe is in multiple posts here) reheats well in microwave

Baked Beans

Egg salad

Mashed potatoes

Protein shakes

My husband found me little 2 oz containers. I put about 2 tablespoons of three ofthe above for variety... That got me through the whole day.

I am not on the puree stage yet, but I've been thinking of recipies that I can make. I'm a mixer, so I'm excited about purees. One thing I want to make is a sweet potato mash with sweet potatos, greek yogurt, cheese, and some pureed chicken all mixed together (I like my sweet potatoes savory - don't diss it 'til you tried it :P ). I also want to make a hummus mixture using pureed chicken as well as a fat free refried bean mixture with the Beans, avocado, greek yogurt, salsa, and cheese. I figure mixing the pureed chicken and maybe even some unflavored Protein Powder with things like beans will be tasty and will take my mind off the fact that I am eating mushy meat ( because it's mixed with something that is SUPPOSED to be mushy). I hope this helps and that no one thinks it sounds gross. Every doc is different, though and allows different food items like carbs and veggies at different stages.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
