Apple Cider Vinegar/ppi/metabolism Booster And More

Recommended Posts

I was not really sure where to put this or how to title it so it shall start here. I remember reading somewhere about people using organic apple cider vinegar. One of the main reasons was for a PPI. I have also talked to a couple people that use it regularly and say that it seems to work as a metabolism booster as well. A friend of mine uses it everyday and said that when he started using it that he dropped about 15 pounds and didn't change anything else. This was a couple years ago when I first saw him drinking this stuff. So I get the idea that I am gonna try it. Now I am not a big white vinegar fan so I am thinking this is gonna be really nasty but I was gonna try it anyway. I have a high tolerance for drinks so why not.

I went to GNC a couple weeks ago and find the stuff I am looking for. I got the Bragg brand organic apple cider vinegar. It was on sale, buy one get one 50% off. If you buy this stuff make sure it's the raw unfiltered stuff. You want to see the stuff settled to the bottom. You want to see the floaties settled out, that is the good stuff that makes it work from what I have gathered. So what I have been doing in taking a bottle of Water and just pouring out some of it. I add in the vinegar, usually two tablespoons full and a tablespoon full of raw natural honey. shake well to mix the honey. You can add some sort of artificial sweetener if you want but it really doesn't need it. You can also add ginger and/or cinnamon. Both of those have some metabolic properties as well. So I have been using this stuff for a couple weeks now and I can honestly say that I can tell a difference in appetite. If I start feeling a little hungry and really don't wanna eat this stuff really seems to make a big difference. I am not sure if it's just the vinegar or getting in some water but I am leaning towards the vinegar as straight water has not seemed to have that noticable affect before.

The apple cider vinegar also has a lot of other health benefits. I wish I could find the link but I can't even remember where I saw it.

Hi I had the apple cider vinegar before the WLS, it did nothing for me, might be different for everyone, but just out of curiousity, post surgery, are we allowed to use this?

It is seriously very very acidic, just wondering if our new stomach can endure such acidic stuff....

Hi Gwynne,

I am pre surgery at this time. It's really not that acidic. Orange juice is much worse for me honestly. I mix two teaspoons (10 ml) measured in a 20 oz bottle of Water so it's pretty diluted. A friend of mine is sleeved and I told him about it because he wanted to stop taking the omeprazole. He said it only took him about three days to fully adjust when he made the switch. Ofcourse I will give you the disclaimer "please consult your physician" lol! It's not for everyone but it's really not bad to me. The girlfriend says I'm disgusting for drinking it but oh well. It really seems to help me and I was very skeptical.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
