I'm 31 (almost 32) and was sleeved 7/31/12 by Dr. Cirangle in San Francisco. Anyone out there who was sleeved at a similar time so we can go through the stages together, sort of? I was a lower BMI: 32 so weight loss is slower for me but the experience should be similar. I'm at Day 10 and have lost 11 lbs.

Anyone interested in keeping in touch like pen pals? :)

Thanks!

Sure! One of the pioneers: Dr Cirangle in San Francisco. It was 17,500 which is one the high side but I'm glad I went with him still. He includes 2 years of follow up visits but usually more like 5. And he leads the support groups that I'm planning to attend.

Oh I'm sick of Protein Shakes too! I'm ready to eat! I still have another week on this liquid diet. I have been having issues with my stomach hurting most of the time and my pcp said its just where he cut through my stomach muscles. I'm ready to feel good again!

Was the surgery open? That totally sucks you still feel pain. I was so glad to stop taking the liquid Vicodin. Yuck! It sounds like so many doctors have different rules on when to eat. I can't go crazy but I got cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, refried Beans, creamy Soups, eggs, and I'm waiting to hear back from the Nut to see if there's anything else...I assume it's anything soft/mushy but I'm going to stick with mostly Protein.< /p>

No mine wasn't open. Did you have your gallbladder out the same time? My doctor said that's part of my pain too. I'm so ready to get to week 3 and start my mushies....I'm jealous :)

Ohhh it must be the gallbladder. I heard that's a lot more painful. I still have mine but I had a small hiatal hernia repaired...didn't know I had one. You'll feel better soon. How many lbs do you want to lose? I've been in the low 200s for years but went into surgery at 188 (I'm 5'5"). My dr said I should be able to get to 120 but I can't even imagine that. I think that's way too thin. Maybe 130-140 and that's even hard to imagine. Isn't this exciting?? Well, if it's not yet its because you're still in pain. :( It'll pass.

Please keep in touch! I'm not sure how to add friends on my phone...are you on obesityhelp.com too? It's nice to talk to someone with a similar low Bmi (I haven't found many) and surgery date!

Thats funny....I was 188 when I went into surgery too! We have a lot in common! This journey is exciting! I know us starting out with a low BMI won't lose as fast but I think we are both doing great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
