So as I'm making my transition to eating some pureeds I'm running into a new physical difference I hadn't discovered until now. It's like my body doesn't know how to hiccup anymore. I go into this weird burp like stance and then I have this pain and have to brace myself for this newfound hiccup?! Anyone else out there feeling as silly as I do?

You know, I had wondered about this. When I was in the hospital walking around, I would get the hiccups like CRAZY. And they hurt, tons. Now that I'm home, and I feel like I have something coming on I kind of... brace myself for it. I know that hiccups are more on the side of 'spontaneous' so maybe what I'm thinking of is burping, but even when I had them (for two flippin' hours straight) they did feel weird.

I definitely hear you!

Mine hurt in my left upper shoulder....someone described it as gas that has settled there. Hurts like the Devil! I just want to know when it will leave.

Yes, I to got the dreaded "ultra hiccups", they would be so loud and intense that I would actually tense up by back and arms and cause myself a lot of pain. They do settle down a little although I've had one or two bouts in the last 6 months or so.

Gr8rlove4me, sorry but this is NOT the "gas settling" in your arm. All the gas that was pumped into your abdomen during surgery was removed or adsorbed din a matter of a few hours, now the IRRITATION from the gas and being stretched all out by being pumped up - YES - that can have lingering effects for days or even weeks afterwards. Warm compresses and activity help alleviate it but TIME is what really does the trick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
