The Monster Is Out!

Recommended Posts

Well I am almost 5 weeks out and everything seemed quite smooth until I went back to work on Monday. Compulsive eating has showed up again, and it feels like this aggressive monster wanting to eat anything in sight. I realized this yesterday night, when I WANTED desperately to stuff my face with something that felt good. I realized that there had been a couple of days that I felt like that, but ignored the feeling. THEN I realized that it started when I went back to work Monday. Although I love my job, it can be a high stress job (I am a school principal).

I haven't given into "The Monster", but I realize now its going to be a battle. I am going to find other ways if "rewarding" myself during the work day, or after work. What kind of strategies do you use to tame the "beast"? Thank you all in advance for your feed back.

That's the toughest part of this journey in my opinion. I am part of a weekly group run by a psychologist whose expertise is dealing with obese people and issues with food. I'm hoping through that group I can learn ways to deal with my mental battle with food. The other thing I do is bring my lunch and planned Snacks to work (mostly) and I've even been known to leave any money I have at home. That way, I can't buy any junk and I can only have what I planned. I'd also like to get some reading material but haven't yet done that.

I look forward to other responses too.

Best of luck to you!

i love eating... i love that i can only eat a tiny bit now.. its forcing me to be good.. .and i'm also realizing that a tiny bit of say chips.. doesnt taste as good to me as a tiny bit of steak or meat... or i like it equally.. so i'm making much better choices....

ugh. I am not sleeved yet but am SERIOUSLY thinking I may need to change jobs. I teach preschool and sometimes rely on Dr. Pepper to keep me sane through the day. I don't want to literally bite a 4 year old kid's head off!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
