Today Food Seems To Go Down Too Well.

Recommended Posts

At lunch today, I ordered an Individual Mashed Potato from KFC (Just started adding soft consistency to the diet). Dr. and Nut. told me to eat slow, and I did. The potatoes literally melted in my mouth (guess b/c they are not "real" but "instant"). Anyway, over 15-20 minutes I ate all of them. The Nutritional Info says 136Grams (so about 4.5 ozs) and 130 Calories.

Fast forward 4 hours. I decide to have some Mott's Natural Applesauce. 3.9 ozs. It all went down. I didn't get the Full/Bloated/Don't Eat sensation.

I realize these foods are different from protein/meat/beans/etc.

But is this what you have expereinced, too? Is my Sleeve toooo big?

Nope, your sleeve probably isn't too big. I think mist people have that thought or the thought of whether the doctor removed most if your stomach. Those type of foods you are eating to down easy and a lot of people can eat more than they think they should be able to. When you get to solids and you can eat Protein solids, you won't eat much. Congrats on your surgery!

Yup. I think this sometimes too. My doctor told me thats a good sign, it means you're healed up. I was worried my sleeeve was too big, or broken or something. LOL But, nope, it just means we're healing and adjusting.

That's why they're called sliders. they slide right down and out like liquid. Solid Protein like meat will be a different story.

Thanks for all the replies. I assumed that, but still couldn't help but wonder. My first 2 days home from surgery I was drinking just over 100 oz of liquids per day, then I did gould to get 40 for a day or two. If I at grits, I know to stop after 5 tsp full. I'm ready for Tuesday- I can have flaky fish then. I'm TRULY learning to appreciate the simple things post-surgery!

I am so glad you posted this....I was just going to ask the same question!!! I'm only 8 days post op and today my teenage boys went to Sonic...I asked them to get me a Cherry Slurpee....YUM.....I thought the slushiness would be a nice change in consistancy between Protein Shakes (take at least an hour to get down) and Water, tea, etc! I ate it with a spoon...poured out the extra cherry syrup....I finished that in about 15 minutes! I'm guess it's not great because of the sugar,(190 cal. 52grams of sugar - I'm hoping that by pouring out most of the Cherry Syrup that I took in less sugar).

Anyway, afterwards I'm thinking - OMG I just ruined my sleeve - is it still working??? If that can slide down SOOOOO easy with no pain, no full feeling....this isn't going to work!!! I'm sure I didn't ruin anything but I sure can see how you can sabotage early (or at any time) if it were ice cream (which is NOT why I had surgery :) or any of those slider foods....I was just shocked that this early 8 days I could even put in that much liquid so quickly....good to know from the other posts that when you eat filling Protein (which I why it takes a long time for me to get 8-10oz of a shake down) that you do get full quick :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
