I am freaking out right now thinking that I'm going to be the person that this surgery didn't work for. I had surgery on 7/30 and at the end of the week, I weighed in at 251. I weighed in Tuesday of this week at 249 and have been weighing in at 250 ever since. I am getting about 60g of Protein a day, I am eating mostly Protein Shakes and a 6-8oz cup (which takes me an hour to finish) of low fat vegan Soup (dairy doesnt sit right since surgery) for dinner and the weight is not coming off. I am also drinking about 24-32 oz of Water a day. I'm starting to freak out because I'd think that the first weeks where I can't eat anything should present the best results but somehow I am just not getting them. It makes me want to cry to think that I put myself through this for nothing. Am I the only one who has had this problem?

I am pre op but one of the things the surgeons at my Bariatric Clinic stressed was weighing only 1x per week (hard I know). The reading material they hand out says the body can fluctuate up to 3 even 5 pounds based on Fluid retention. Also you are only 1 week out and your body is still recovering from the major trauma that is surgery as you are healing you a very likely to be holding on to Water. It will work for you no worries:)

yes, don't forget about the Fluid retention and swelling from the surgery. Also an 'older' sleever said they would stall or have slower weightloss when not getting enough calories. Your body hangs on to everything I was told. And I, at 4 weeks post-op am lucky to be hetting 500 calories a day! Its hard the first few weeks. Hoping it gets easier! Good Luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
