For Those who have "Hit the Sweet Spot"

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I had my surgery 6-19-06. I have the Vanguard Band- my fill was 4cc, the second was 2cc. I have a total of 6cc. I had no srestriction after the first fill, after the second, I had a better restriction then it deminished.

I am scheduled for another fill next week.

For those of you who have hit the sweet spot- is this the way you progressed to obtaing the sweet spot. It just seems so odd that for the first week after my second fill, I was saying to myself "I've hit the sweet spot" and then I'm able to eat more but still less than I could before the previous fill.

Thanks,

Dwayne

I have a VG band and I went through the same thing. At 6ccs I thought "Oh Lordy, I finally have restriction!", but then it seemed to slip away. I was certain I had a leak, stretched my pouch or something. NADA! I just needed more fill. I finally have what I believe to be good restriction at 9ccs. It took awhile to get to 9ccs, but now I am happy and lossing once again. Best of Luck to you.

My surgeon explained that as you lose weight your restriction will lessen. It just won't be as tight. I've also heard that there is also a possibility of some evaporation.

Can someone tell me exactly what their "sweet spot" feels like in terms of what they can and cannot eat and just generally anything that could help me know when I am there? I always seem to be too tight or too loose! Thanks so much! Christi

I am currently experiencing the same thing. I don't know whether I need another fill or unfill. I am not losing any weight and can not eat because of things always getting stuck! I will try to eat and if anything feels like it isn't going down I quit and spit it out. I always thought that if you have good restriction that things don't get stuck and you just feel full after 1/2 cup of food or so. That is how I felt after this last fill of 4.75 in a 11cc VG band but it did not stay that way for very long. I am just wondering if I should fill or unfill?

I believe I am at my sweet spot or very close to it. I have had 3 fills in a 4cc band: 1cc, 1cc, .5cc. I didn't feel anything after the first fill. I felt a tiny bit immediately after the second fill but nothing shortly after. I really felt the third fill the first few days, but now I'm just sort of in a groove where I'm not eating much at all, and only having problems at TOM or when I (swallow/eat) something stupid.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
