Starting Below 35 Bmi Success Stories

Recommended Posts

I keep hearing (from doctors and boards) that with a lower starting BMI of below 35 I will loose much slower. I understand the heavier you are the quicker the pounds fall off. I'm looking for those who have had success and did it come off slowly. (Just the things that are going round in my mind while looking at another Protein shake).

Look at my ticker! Also, I'm 57 and have hypothyroidism, so if anybody should have lost slowly it should have been me. "Losing slowly" is relative. Did I lose 60 lbs my first 90 days? No. Did I lose quicker than any diet I've ever been on? Yes. Was I at goal in less than a year because I didn't have that much to lose? Yes. There are advantages to having a low BMI.

I had my surgery on March 27 with a BMI of 35. Four and one-half months later I'm 14 pounds from goal (according to what my doctor says he'd be happy to see) and more like 20 pounds from what I'd like to see.

I feel great and most people are shocked to find out that I'm not at goal yet as they say "I look like I should be" and "I better not be going for the anorexic look."

I have stalls (like most people) that last anywhere from 1-2 weeks but I don't freak out, I watch what I eat very carefully and keep a food diary (My Fitness Pal). I work out regularly and started running (will be doing my first ever 5K in just over a week - YIKES!). And I get my Protein in -come hell or high Water.

If I don't lose another pound I'd feel like a complete success!! I hope this finds you well. Keep your eye on the prize and you'll be a success story too!

I'm a newbie (9 days post-op) and had a BMI of 32. I've lost 11 lbs so far, which I think is pretty dang good. I'm excited to lose more but I'm actually ok if I lose slowly...I kinda don't want a ton of attention at work (I work at a high school). My doctor believes that in my first 3 weeks, I should be around 20 lbs, so we'll see...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
