I Just Messed Up I Had Peanuts

I HAD A FEW PEANUTS AND A SLICE OF BACON I DON'T HAVE A DATE YET BUT THEY ARE CERTAIN IT WILL BE IN THE MONTH SO I STARTED THE PREOP liquid AND I ATE SOMETHING WHO DOES THAT !!!!!!! WHY AFTER GETTING THROUGH MOST OF THE DAY DID I FEEL THE NEED TO EAT SOMETHING NOW THAT I AM SITTING STILL I AM REALIZING I AM NOT EVEN HUNGRY I FEEL LIKE CRYING HOW CAN I BE SO INTELLIGENT AND SO DAMN DUMB SORRY DIDN'T MEAN TO CUSS I AM TIRED OF MYSELF AT THE MOMENT

I'm in the process of losing 36 lbs. so I can get a surgery date. This is NOT the end of the world! Look on the bright side -- you had a FEW peanuts and A SLICE of bacon. You could have eaten a LOT of peanuts and TEN slices of bacon! So just get back on the liquids, don't look back, and keep on keepin' on. :D

Pre-op diets vary all over the place. Some docs (like mine) only had me do liquid for two days prior to surgery. Other than that, I was just told to eat high Protein, low carb/fat and lose 10-15 pounds. He encouraged drinking Protein shakes to get to know which ones I liked so it wouldn't be a shock after surgery.

You'll be fine, don't beat yourself up too much. Thankfully they are good Protein Snacks, just a little higher in fat than you may want. But if you had only a little, let it go. Get back on the diet and move forward!

Who does that? Pretty much all of us. It happens, and it is much better to learn to put yourself back on track now than have this issues after surgery. You've beat yourself up. Think of how you will better prepare yourself the next time the cravings start, but most importantly learn from your mistake and forgive yourself.

Four days before surgery, I was at PF Changs eating another 'last supper,' because my doc told me that the most important part of my pre-op diet was the three days before surgery where I was restricted to Clear Liquids.

The Friday before my Monday surgery I had a Quizno's sandwich for dinner. I did the preop liquid diet by choice for 2 weeks prior to my surgery. I gave myself that one meal. It's not the end of the world. Now if you eat peanuts and bacon for Breakfast on the way to surgery - you will have problems!!

You had a moment of weakness and did something that you shouldn't have done. I think this means that you might just be human. Now that you've fallen the next step is to get up, brush yourself off, and get back on that horse.

To answer "who does that?". Almost all of us. The trick is to get up and do better next time. You've got a big cheering section here. Don't hesitate to come to us when you are tempted. We may not always have the answers, but we all have been there, and will do our best.

Now saddle up and try again.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. The pre-op liquid diets vary so much that you may only need to be on the diet for 48hours prior to your scheduled date. Peanuts and a slice of bacon is NOT going to kill you! This is a process and at the end of the day it is extremely hard to be on any diet let alone a straight liquid diet for weeks at a time. Relax and take a deep breath!! You'll be fine.

We all do it, don't stress or beat yourself up too much! :) I was a 3 week pre-op and had an entire day that I went off...I still lost 17 pounds prior to surgery. So you ate a few things you weren't supposed to, get back to it, you'll be fine. Good luck!!!

Peanuts and bacon are low- or zero-carb foods. The point of most pre-op diets is to detox your liver of glycogen by depriving yourself carbs. They have to lift your liver up and hold it out of the way for this procedure. A smaller liver is much easier to work with. You didn't really do any damage, so stop beating yourself up, Parris!

I had chicken twice during my pre-op diet. I was just too hungry I couldn't stand it. Everything worked out fine for me. I think they expect you to cheat.

........may I just say for someone struggling with the liquid diet that I am pretty sure we would all agree that....... liquid diet SUCKS! Not just sucks a little bit but really really really sucks. So if you are all whiny and angry and down and thinking about driving up to a window for a heart attack in a sack....don't think there is anything wrong with you. If there is anyone out there who can say that the liquid diet was a breeze then they most likely wouldn't need surgery.

The good news....it starts getting easier about day 3. Somewhere along day 3 you go into ketosis if you are on a high protein/low carb diet. This acts as a natural appetite suppressant. If I had to do 14 days of day 1 or 2 I would never make it. I am on day 4 and it was doable today. Not fun, not pleasant, but doable. To be honest, however, I have been an over-sensitive, emotional wreck for the past 3 days. If you are reading this on the first few days of your pre-op diet you are probably overly sensitive, tired, shaky, have a headache, and are absolutely starving. The entire world is probably ticking you off and you could come through the computer and slap someone that says "if you can't do the pre-op how are you going to do the post-op?" I caved and had a boiled chicken breast and asparagus on the first night, then a boiled chicken tender on day 2 and 3. Today I did ok. If you do cheat, make it a smart one. Don't cheat with carbs or you will kill the ketosis benefit. Good luck..........

In other news--I am now 10 days post-sleeve and the liquid diet is so very very very easy now compared to before. My first surgery date was cancelled (anesthesia issues--nothing to do with pre-op diet) and I had to continue on the pre-op diet for another week. I was so discouraged and upset and struggled so much that last week. I mean--there was a baconator combo involved--upsized. This is hard--very very very hard and you don't have the help of a sleeve yet. Do the best you can--have a "smart cheat" lined up so you won't fall off the wagon into a cheeseburger--and realize that help is on the way.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
