Good Bye Band, Hello Sleeve

Recommended Posts

My name is Natalee from Birmingham, Al. I was banded May 2008 and lost almost 100 lbs within a year and a half! Everything was fine but then lost my insurance and was unable to have a fill for 2 1/2 years! But during that time due to family stress gained 80lbs back!

Recently I went to a doc in the box because I was constantly nauseous and sick. Doc said it could be related to my band but I told her it couldn't be! Sure enough, went to Dr. Touliatos at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham and the band had started to erode!! So he said it had to come out and he recommended have the sleeve at the same time since I'm still morbidly obese. Within a week the insurance had approved the surgery and I'm getting sleeved on August 17!! I'm nervous of course but ready to have this horrible band taken out!!!

Starting the Pre-Op diet tomorrow and counting down the days!!

I was banded 11/07/07 and had no reall success with the band. I am getting sleeved 9/5/12. I am nervous of the surgery, but after reading many of the revision stories, I know I need this band out before I began to have serious issues. Good luck with your surgery. Please keep us updated with your progress.

Emeroldzz:

How would you describe the recovery as compared to the Lap Band recovery? I'm really hoping to be on my feet soon after because I have two small children.

I am having a revision tomorrow August 14th I have had my band since August 7th, 2002 exactly 10 years and one week. I did excellent myself and lost 100 lbs but within the last 2-3 years I have experienced so much heartburn that I had to have the Fluid removed thus gaining back all but 35 lbs.

I am excited and ready for my sleeve journey.. I will be revised in one procedure at least the doctor is 95% sure. I have been praying God will guide the doctors hand s and let it be in one step safely.

Gingersnap: Recovery for me has been hard. You definitely want some help with the little ones as you wont be able to pick up anything over 10 pounds. I'm sore. It was very hard to get liquids down. BUT, each day it gets better. Today is probably my best day so far and I'm 6 days out. If I had to do it all over again I would!

Good luck Pegsue!!

Gingersnap I don't have small children at home but I do have 3 grandchildren and 2 of them are small and when they come to visit love to have nanny hold them in my lap and of course at the same time jealous that nanny might give more lovin to 1 and not the other what a joy they all are. I am so glad to hear even with your hard time you would still do the surgery again. So glad to be getting back on the losers bench again.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
